Fox News host Sean Hannity on Wednesday launched what he believed was a scalding attack against Sen. Bernie Sanderss (I-VT) drug pricing plan but it immediately backfired when people responded to say it sounded amazing.
SANDERS: We are going to ensure that no one pays more than $200 a year for the prescription drugs they need ' Hannity wrote on Twitter while linking to an article on his website that made fun of the Vermont senator for promising lower drug prices.

Many people following Hannity, however, said that only having to spend $200 a year at most on prescription drugs sounded like a great idea, including one follower who challenged the premise of Hannitys article by showing exactly how Sanders plans to slash the cost of drugs in the United States.

(58,366 posts)Martin Shkreli (/ˈʃkrɛli/; born March 17, 1983) is an American businessman, former hedge fund manager, and convicted felon.[7][8] He was the co-founder of the hedge funds Elea Capital, MSMB Capital Management, and MSMB Healthcare;[9] co-founder and former chief executive officer (CEO) of the biotechnology firm Retrophin; and founder and former CEO of Turing Pharmaceuticals. Shkreli is the former CEO of start-up software company Gödel Systems, which he founded in August 2016.[10]
In September 2015, Shkreli received widespread criticism when Turing obtained the manufacturing license for the antiparasitic drug Daraprim and raised its price by a factor of 56 (from US$13.5 to $750 per pill), leading him to be referred to by the media as "the most hated man in America" and "Pharma Bro".[11][12][13]

Shkreli was subpoenaed to appear before the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform of the U.S. House of Representatives to answer questions about the Daraprim price increase.[11] Shkreli's efforts to quash the subpoena were unsuccessful.[11]
(snip)
Shkreli followed his lawyer's advice and refused to answer any questions, except to confirm his name[97][98] including those related to his acquisition of the most expensive music album ever made[99] by exercising his Fifth Amendment rights.[100]

(5,969 posts)proposing that limit of 200$ on top of your insurance isn't even that unreasonable or anything close to a handout. Your insurance costs already cover at least a part of your drug costs. The scandalous pricing of certain live-saving meds simply has to stop. That would be just the first step but eventually it should lead to a system where we can stop pretending that these proposals are outlandish.

that government should be run like a business.
Government is infinitely greater in its' inherent obligations and responsibilities to the American People than any business.
When government is thought of in the same mind as a business, then business has no restraints, everything is about profit (usually short term) and all this comes at the expense of the greater public good or general welfare of the people.
So our life expectancy decreases, our infrastructure goes to waste, poverty increases as cheap labor is cheap by definition, our environment becomes increasingly inhospitable, addictions of all manner increase, these and other societal stresses increase division along any fault line that can be found and exploited by the powers that have a vested interest in keeping the status quo while more people in the "land of the free" are in prison than other any nation on Earth.
