Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumLet's re-sort the candidates...
I'd say we have a four-way top tier (Biden, Warren, Buttigieg and Sanders), a two-way second tier (Yang and Bloomberg), and a two-way third tier (Booker and Klobuchar).
primary today, I would vote for: Joe Biden

(14,891 posts)Sorry, I like him, but his path won't bring him into the top tier; it's just the early state illusion.
He might surprise me, but he needs urban support that isn't apparent right now.

Wins in Iowa/New Hampshire can change the short-term dynamics.
primary today, I would vote for: Joe Biden

(25,499 posts)He's been in double digits in a handful of polls and is at 9% in the two most recent. A week or two worth of polls doesn't really tell us much long-term, and I think it's a little premature to put him in the same category as Sanders/Warren/Biden. If the trend continues for a while, it will look more like he belongs in the top tier.

I like Yang but no real upside from here. Klobuchar still has a possible path.

Klobuchar has the most local endorsements in Iowa. You have to understand that this is a caucus state and having the most local facing campaign can play big if just a bit of a chance opens up.
Because Iowans know her she is the candidate with the possibility of a surprise, based on national polling.
The January debate criteria are not out yet but she made the December debate even before November and Yang has yet to do so,

(115,103 posts)Three of her four qualifying polls are from Iowa. Her national support is weak. We know she'll do well in the Midwest. Nationally? Not so much.

(81,883 posts)I don't think that she will win at this point. It's not impossible, but I don't see it.

(1,812 posts)Biden , Buttigeg , Sanders and Warren .The others have almost no chance of being our nominee ..I wish future debates would be limited to the Final Four ..I know the rules won't permit this to happen ..It's December ..It's time to get serious ..The others have been given ample opportunity to make their case to the American people .. Bloomberg is making his case via a massive TV ad buy ..He won't be included in the debates in any case .. Like the other also-rans, he has virtually no chance of being our nominee . Enough with the 90 second answers on serious issues like healthcare , climate change , foreign policy and income inequality .Time for a real debate ..
primary today, I would vote for: Undecided

(628 posts)I completely agree other than Bloomberg could sneak into the top on his money alone
The rest really need to be dropped from the debates. I mean Harris dropped out and she has more support than the others that are below her.
The biggest complaint I hear is too many people are on the stage so they tune out.
primary today, I would vote for: Undecided
Will have at most 8. January is likely to have 6 or maybe 5.
It really looks like the DNC tuned this pretty well.

(115,103 posts)It was bound to be a different kind of primary, with the desperation to get Trump out of office. They managed to organize things in the fairest way possible.

(22,758 posts)if Buttigieg takes votes from Sanders... I'm ok with Sanders, Harris, Booker, Klobuchar staying in the Senate

(7,876 posts)Why is Klobuchar in the third tier when she -- unlike Yang -- has already qualified for the next debate?
Where is Steyer, who also is one of the few to already qualify for the next debate?

(94,792 posts)...and because her CAMPAIGN MANAGER just called me asking for money (which tells me she's having a hard time raising)
...and because I suspect Bloomberg's financial resources will give him an edge over her going forward.

(94,792 posts)I figured you'd know that by know.
Having a lot of money doesn't mean you know what to do with it; I don't see Steyer generating the kind of buzz that Bloomberg will be able to.

No candidate is going to make or break over a few thousand dollars in campaign contributions and it's pretentious to think otherwise.

(58,785 posts)I believe this reality explains why so many great people have done so poorly: With one candidate, VP Biden, far out ahead before he even announced, most of the electorate want candidates to prove similar ELECTABILITY before they'll support, and they can't. A catch-22.

(14,087 posts)both Biden and Warren are very electable. Biden more so but Warren is very persuasive when she talks to people and has a certain charisma. But yes, Joe is very warm and charismatic and comes in with great experience so hes definitely the one to beat.

(49,045 posts)Notice that he's divided the top tier into 1a and 1b, which IMO is silly since he is still basically saying == as I said above -- that Biden's in the top tier all by himself:
