Fracking is absolutely devastating wherever it exists.

"Former Vice President Joe Biden said he would not support a nationwide fracking ban on Wednesday -- in part because he doesnt believe any measure banning fracking could pass -- but the Delaware Democrat said he does support stopping all oil drilling or gas drilling on federal lands.
Bidens position is the most common Democratic position, but other candidates in the race -- like Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders and New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker -- have pushed for a nationwide fracking ban.
Biden, in response to a question about fracking in Pennsylvania, said on Wednesday that the federal government has less latitude in what we say we can and cannot do on state lands.
I think we should in fact be looking at what exists now and making a judgment whether or not the those in fact that are there, those wells that are there, whether or not they are dangerous, whether or not they have already done the damage, Biden said.
Biden said the federal government could pass national legislation but that he doesnt believe there are enough votes to get it done.

(115,103 posts)Unbelievable. Maybe he should reach out to PSR if he's somehow still not aware of the facts.
This is a great example of the kind of 'we should look into that' political response that makes people hate and distrust politicians.

HEALTH PROFESSIONAL GROUPS RAISE ALARM THAT BUILD-OUT OF DRILLING AND FRACKING OPERATIONS IS CREATING A PUBLIC HEALTH CRISIS. EXPERTS AVAILABLE FOR INTERVIEWS.

As incontrovertible evidence of harm from fracking mounts and more health professionals raise the alarm, the fracking debate is taking place within an altered landscape. Today, as a growing body of scientific evidence confirms demonstrable health risks and harms from drilling and fracking operations and their attendant infrastructure, calls from the medical community for health-protective policies are growing louder. A new report by two leading health professional organizationsPhysicians for Social Responsibility and Concerned Health Professionals of New Yorktracks and analyzes the rapidly emerging science that points to the increasing dangers to health, including respiratory disease, cancer risk, and low birth weight and preterm birth, both of which are leading causes of infant death.
This evidence is of grave concern to health professionals, especially given that over 17 million Americans now live within a mile of an active oil or gas well. This population includes over a million young children and a million elderly people, two groups with special vulnerabilities to air pollution and contaminated water. Other studies show harm to infants born to mothers who live near drilling and fracking operations during their pregnancies. If carried out, the Trump administrations plans to roll back federal regulations and expand fracking on public lands will further exacerbate these harmful impacts.
The new report, the Compendium of Scientific, Medical, and Media Findings Demonstrating Risks and Harms of Fracking, 5th Edition compiles and summarizes an avalanche of recent studies. Of more than 1,300 studies published on the effects of drilling and fracking, more than 90 percent have been published since 2013, and about a quarter were published in 2017 alone.
Several experts are available, upon request, for interviews about the new report and the issue more broadly.

(9,345 posts)So do I. We all have our priorities. Mine is to get rid of Trump. As far as I am concerned, your number one priority has no chance as long as my number one priority is not met. But you may have other ideas, and I welcome your sentiment, even though I don't quite understand how you envision it becoming a reality.

(12,536 posts)Until they start reducing, nothing any of the Western countries do will matter. The atmosphere has no borders & doesnt care where the CO2 is coming from.
And until nuclear power is a strong part of the equation, no REAL progress will be made as far as power generation without greenhouse gases is concerned. You cannot replace our power needs with wind & solar. We dont have storage capacity. Certainly fund research to come up with better options, but the current realities are what they are.

(35,337 posts)county Ohio. Belmont county has 646 horizontal wells in progress or producing, the most in the entire state.
So far the only adverse results I have seen is property values and rental rates have increased making it hard for
low income people to find housing. A multi billion dollar cracker plant will probably soon start construction. They say it will
provide around 10000 construction jobs over the next 5 years or more and several hundred permanent operating jobs.
It will also create thousands of spin off jobs in the area. What is devastating about that?

Apparently Common Dreams and the repliers here prefer to pay double or triple for their fuel costs for a few years?. What Common Dreams and the repliers to this article need is some Common Sense. Or perhaps you should tell Putin your scheme to discredit and smear Biden is transparent and doomed."
