Biden signals to aides that he would serve only a single term

Former Vice President Joe Biden’s top advisers and prominent Democrats outside the Biden campaign have recently revived a long-running debate whether Biden should publicly pledge to serve only one term, with Biden himself signaling to aides that he will serve only a single term.

While the option of making a public pledge remains available, Biden has for now settled on an alternative strategy: quietly indicate that he will almost certainly not run for a second term while declining to make a promise that he and his advisers fear could turn him into a lame duck and sap him of his political capital.

According to four people who regularly talk to Biden, all of whom asked for anonymity to discuss internal campaign matters, it is virtually inconceivable that he will run for re-election in 2024, when he would be the first octogenarian president.

“If Biden is elected,” a prominent adviser to the campaign said, “he’s going to be 82 years old in four years and he won’t be running for reelection.”

Sanders and Warren must run independent of each other and if they want to give the other a better chance and they think they are hurting the other candidate...I have my doubts...than one needs to end their campaign. The candidate with the most delegates wins the nomination...end of story...and remember how you felt when Trump won the election because a brokered convention which won't happen anyway would certainly give Trump four more years. The point is not to have your most favorite pure fabulous progressive but to field a candidate, one candidate, who can win a general.

Then again if Joe would come out campaign that he will devote ALL his energy to fix what trump broke with idea of being a single term President NOT beholden to anyone for a 2nd term, that could be a real positive and would make a Kamala Harris VP slot even more critical and important to the democratic party

I see the opposite:

- she is a female
- she is a minority
- she is intelligent and articulate
- she is a senator
- she was DA at local level
- she was a AG of the state of California

NO other candidate that is running/has runned for president approaches her background. To say she doesn;t bring anything to table is really absurd, in my opinion

she is a female - I agree
- she is a minority - true but she does not have minority support
- she is intelligent and articulate - I sort of agree
- she is a senator - not sure this is a good thing - Obama was the first senator elected since ?
- she was DA at local level - Pretty much why she does not have minority support
- she was a AG of the state of California - Again, pretty much why she does not have minority support

Do not get me wrong. I like Harris. I supported her out of the gate but she became to wishy-washy for me. Plus her attacking Biden on race pretty much sealed her fate.

I think Biden goes after Stacey Abram which would be a great choice. I know he mentioned her before. Really any nominee Stacey Abram would be a great choice.

And I'd be surprised if Joe Biden feels he can trust her on a personal level to have his back after...well, you know.

I don't think she bring the advantages Joe Biden is going to consider critical to his choice if he gets the nomination.

Former Vice President Joe Biden on Friday said he would not commit to serving only one term if he is elected president.

Biden made the comment in an appearance on ABC's "The View," when the Democratic contender was pressed on concerns about his age and speculation he could announce a pledge of serving just one term.

Biden, 76, flatly said "No," when asked by the hosts if he would commit to serving only one term, going on to joke that he could, however, be forced to serve only four years by voters.

"It’s a legitimate question to ask about my age," Biden continued, saying he intended to demonstrate in the campaign that “with age comes wisdom and experience that can make things a lot better."

of a running mate even more important. Biden's job is going to be to correct all the harm done by Trump. That's going to require an entire term, I'm certain, since international relations are slow to accept changes.

Then, if he chooses an outstanding running mate who can win in 2024, that person can take on the job of moving the nation in more progressive directions. That's not to say that progress will not be made during the Biden administration. It will, but the real push will occur in subsequent administrations.

I'm still in favor of Kamala Harris as his running mate. Give her four years of increasing responsibility and she'll be more than ready to win in 2024.
