Why Trump is winning on trade in Iowa
PoliticoCEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa More than 600 Teamsters union members and retirees from across the country came here recently to hear six of the top Democratic presidential candidates make the case for why theyre best for American workers.
Former Vice President Joe Biden pitched himself as labor from belt buckle to shoe sole. Pete Buttigieg promised as president he would not be laughed at by the leaders of the world.
But after two hours and five candidates, not a single one mentioned trade a topic thats roiling rural Iowa, which has been hard-hit by President Donald Trumps trade wars.

The closest thing to a shout-out to trade policy came from Sen. Bernie Sanders the sixth and final candidate to speak who asserted he would stand up for workers abroad and stand up for workers in the United States of America.

in many ways.
From article: "Still, Sen. Elizabeth Warren is the only major candidate to roll out a comprehensive trade plan, which in some ways more closely resembles Trumps agenda than Barack Obamas."
Personally, I find treating poor foreign workers -- including Hispanics -- like scabs unacceptable.

Tiny China Trade Deal Seals Beijing's Victory Over Trump; Dow Jones Steady
"Beijing confirmed Friday that it has agreed to a China trade deal with the U.S., briefly lifting the Dow Jones Industrial Average to a record high. Yet China stopped short of committing to a level of U.S. agricultural purchases, a key demand of President Donald Trump, while the U.S. agreed to a minimal reduction of tariffs."

The Idea of the trade war is winning. But the general is not. Each up and down is wearing away his support.
