Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumI don't care which primary candidate you vote for, but
please make sure you ask yourself whether that candidate truly has the potential to beat Trump. Even in an election that may be challenged by various attempts to manipulate it. Ask that question of yourself before you cast your ballot. We cannot survive another Trump term in office.
We must win in 2020! Think long and hard.

(1,812 posts)We went for the centrist with the best resume... Remember ? The most qualified candidate in US History who couldn't draw crowds - but wouldn't scare anyone away in the General.....The GOP nominee is raving lunatic, after all ..We played it safe in 2000 and 2004 as well ... Crowd Size doesn't matter ..Right ? .Wrong . It is a strong lead indicator that the base won't turn out in sufficient numbers to get the job done .. In 2008, Remember a certain inexperienced US Senator with the Muslim Name ? America wasn't ready to elect a Black President ...Sure he's creating a huge grass-roots movement and drawing huge crowds ...We didn't play it safe - and won ..

(32,803 posts)Voters are fairly clear about what they would like from a Democrat. They prefer, by 82% to 11%, one who promises to find common ground over one who promises to fight for a progressive agenda; and they prefer a moderate over a liberal, 75% to 19%.
They support Biden over the president, 38% to 27%, but prefer the president to Warren, 37% to 20%. Sanders is in between, with the president leading him, 34% to 32%. This group voted for Trump by a smaller margin in 2016, 37% to 30%, with the rest casting ballots for minor candidates.

(6,994 posts)Check the History of Democratic candidates. Every time Democrats (as in the DNC) have pushed for a "play it safe" candidate or a candidate that was a veteran Democrat that had been around for a long time and it was their turn, Democrats have lost.
Unknown candidates that have won John F Kennedy,Jimmy Carter,Bill Clinton, no one knew Harry Truman except he was a VP
and of course Barrack Obama and the list goes on.

(47,544 posts)and Trumpism. Too many voters hate anything Democrat and will not need a strong excuse to vote NO. Too many people love the pugnaciousness of Trump. Too many people are anarchists, want to "drain the swamp" even though, of course, Trump and Guiliani are the new swamp. Too many people, worldwide, do not trust governments or any institutions though, of course, they benefit from them and will go to the street - look at Paris now - to protest when governments no longer work for them.
Sadly, this mistrust started with the election of Trump or, I suppose, the Brexit vote several months earlier. It is our responsibility, really, to show the rest of the world the way to get back to normal, to trust institutions.
Several months ago I suggested that Biden state that he would serve just one term and many immediately disagreed. This way, someone said, he will be a lame duck from day one.
But I think that, really, if he wins, he will. And perhaps four years will be enough to start restoring normalcy. And then some who want can start a revolution.

(1,713 posts)of someone who isn't excited by Biden and more politically like Sanders. However, me and most people i know that supported Sanders in 2016 are supporting Biden because he will be Trump. Trump is scared to death of Biden. His conduct the last 24 months is evidence.

(145,635 posts)Trump can easily win next year if the economy is strong. I strongly disagree with the concept that any candidate that the Democratic party nominates will easily win.
From Larry Sabato https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/the-economy-got-nixon-reagan-and-bush-reelected-it-could-do-it-for-trump-too/2019/04/23/b8920d34-65e6-11e9-a1b6-b29b90efa879_story.html?utm_term=.a35b315730d2
Credit the powers of incumbency and a strong economy, the state of which may matter more to Trumps odds than nearly anything else. Incumbency and the economy, among other matters, ended up being more than enough for Nixon, Reagan and Bush. Despite Trumps unprecedented outlandishness, that same combination might work for him, too. [/d]
