Most Californians want someone who can beat Trump. Is Joe Biden the most likely to do it?

As Californians weigh their options ahead of the state’s March 3, 2020 primary, Democrats are increasingly considering electability when deciding which candidate to support.

A recent survey of likely primary voters found 55 percent of California Democrats care more about finding a candidate who can beat President Donald Trump, while 38 percent prefer someone whose policy views come closest to theirs, according to the Public Policy Institute of California.

With less than 100 days until Election Day, the 15 Democrats still in the race are making their case to voters about why they are the best person to take on Trump. Here’s a breakdown of the top four candidates:

JOE BIDEN

Former Vice President Joe Biden is most strongly pressing the electability argument, persistently contrasting himself with Trump and insisting he’s best positioned to beat him by winning key swing states.

I'm getting really lukewarm vibes from potential youth voters when it's anyone less willing to take on Wall Street and the billionaires. Depending only on the boomer demographic is asking for repeat of 2016.
This "electability" thing, ahem, way too centrist, way too hum-drum, way too unlikely to siphon off some of the disgruntled 2016 tRump vote who now regrets it.
We need energy, excitability, real platforms of change in believable ways, real plans, real futures for working class, college students and even scared Gen-Xer's afraid my retirement may be vienna sausage and crackers daily and heaven help me if I break a hip.
And this "electability" concept, "reaching across the isle", centrist, lukewarm, "moderate" crap reaches one demographic. And alienates anyone looking for real solutions.

But it wasn’t just one meeting that convinced Woodfin to endorse the former Vice President. The 38-year-old stressed the importance of expanding the political map in the 2020 elections beyond traditionally blue states. Biden, in Woodfin’s estimation, stands the best chance of helping down-ballot candidates in Senate, House and gubernatorial races much like Barack Obama did during his two campaigns for president.

When asked how he could endorse an older, white moderate in a field full of more diverse, progressive and younger candidates, Woodfin explained that being a moderate is not necessarily a bad thing.

“I feel like [Biden] is the bridge between the future of the Democratic party and the most successful Democratic administration in our lifetimes,” explained Woodfin. “You can’t throw that out of the window. That bridge is important.”

“Being a moderate does not equal status quo,” the mayor added. “I 100 percent reject anyone who believes that. I support a lot of things on the left but—if I’m being real—I also believe you gotta win.

to focus on who can win enough states to beat trump. Young, old whatever doesn't matter. The repeat of 2016 will happen if folks keep pushing who they "like" and not who can win.

once we nationalize corporations and remove incentive as an obstacle to freedom, banks will lend us money so we can start our own Wall Street selling yoga mats.

McClatchy also has a left-center bias, although I tend to think they are more at the center:
