Joe Lieberman Showers Bernie Sanders with Praise on CNN: 'Equals' the 'Financial Strength of Mike Bl

By Connor Mannion Jan 2nd, 2020, 1:55 pm

Former U.S. Sen. Joe Lieberman noted Sen. Bernie Sanders’ apparent strength and staying power as a presidential candidate, comparing the Vermont senator’s resources to billionaire Michael Bloomberg.

Lieberman spoke with John Berman on New Day Thursday where the former independent senator from Connecticut praised the current independent senator from Vermont.

“When you see those fund-raising numbers from Bernie Sanders, $34.5 million in the fourth quarter, how does it strike you?” Berman asked.

“He has shown real lasting power both politically, the crowds are there for him, and also monetarily,” Lieberman responded. “It’s a great show of support. And to be the most significant thing here in these numbers is what was said earlier is 99% of the people who have given to him in these numbers are giving an average of $18 which means they can keep giving.”

anyone confuses fundraising with winning.

Sanders outspent Biden in the first three quarters of last year, and it didn't help.

He outspent HRC four years ago, and it didn't help.

NPR estimated Sanders spent more than twice as much per vote as HRC did in 2016, at least during the month with the most primaries, the one they had the latest data on:

https://www.npr.org/2016/04/29/476047822/sanders-campaign-has-spent-50-percent-more-than-clinton-in-2016

Look, if Sanders and his supporters want to take a fundraising victory lap, fine.

But it's silly to pretend it means or predicts a political victory.

primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

If Sanders' fundraising trailed the pack, DUers from coast to coast would claim it as proof of his imminent demise.

Only in Rumpelstiltskin logic could trouncing the competition be a negative.

I realize that the fact that Sanders SMOKED your guy, despite taking gobs of corporate and Super PAC money, is a jagged little pill but I have my head on straight. Of that you can be sure.

David Axelrod first.

Then, Dan Pfeiffer, on Sanders.

[Full article, including Pfeiffer quote, available here]

One more point: upon what logic do you rely that Bernie will lose? In 2016, he finished in Iowa a close second. The last time your guy ran in Iowa in 2008, he placed a distant third.

Lieberman was no Progressive. That point is incontrovertible. However, to dismiss his decades of service, including many years which he shared with Bernie and Biden as members of Congress, over his final bad years, is disingenuous at best.

I like "Make America Right Again".

But also up for grabs and in the general spirit are:
Rand Paul's "Defeat the Washington Machine. Unleash the American Dream."
Ben Carson's "Heal. Inspire. Revive."
