Ed "Deform" candidate Mike Bloomberg plans to Promote Charter Schools

Presidential hopeful Mike Bloomberg may have backed off supporting stop-and-frisk, but he plans to double-down on another controversial policy from his time as New York Mayor — expanding charter schools.

Bloomberg will soon roll out an education plan that will include backing the privately managed schools as an option for families, his campaign office told The Post — drawing a contrast with other top-tier Democratic presidential rivals.

“Mike’s education plan will absolutely promote charter schools,” Bloomberg campaign spokesman Stu Loeser insisted.

There is no excuse for saying, "If candidate X wins the primary, I will not vote for him." No matter who the candidate is.

I'm not a fan of Bloomberg but I'll vote for him if he's the candidate.

The kind of idiocy that says, "If I don't get my way I will take my ball and go home!" is what got us into this mess to begin with.

Don't think he can win the Dem nomination, despite throwing a ton of $$ at it. He is not our friend, billionaires just don't have any clue about ordinary people's lives. Backing Charter schools is heinous and disqualifying in my book, but then so was Stop and Frisk.

Bloomberg was a Mayor for 12 years. Elected by Democrats three times. Whether you liked his policies or not, that gives him perspective.

As for Bloomberg's endorsements, he has also backed myriad Democrats. He's a big gun control advocate and goes where he can for support (the Pat Toomey endorsement, which he gets heat for, was supported by Gabby Giffords as well).

I don't trust the billionaires trying to run things for the benefit of themselves and other oligarchs - which is most of them. Bloomberg is running for president, Soros isn't - huge difference. I have no problem with billionaire folks who use their money to good cause, yes give the DNC huge donations, buy tv ads, support good Dems incumbents and challengers, support alternative energy sources. It's just most got to be billionaires by bilking others and scamming & stealing from the working class is generally their way of life - Adelson, Sinclairs, Murdoch, Koch are all examples of oligarchs that are dangerous. Far more of them than the 1-2 good guys.

17. Cory Booker: Stop Being Dogmatic About Public Charter Schools

When I was mayor of Newark, we invested in both traditional public schools and high-performing public charter schools. Following our efforts, the citywide graduation rate rose to 77 percent in 2018 from just above 50 percent a decade ago. Today, Newark is ranked the No. 1 city in America for “beat the odds” high-poverty, high-performance schools by the Center on Reinventing Public Education.

We refused to accept the false choice between supporting public-school teachers and giving parents options for their kids when they had none, and the city worked with our local teacher’s union to give our public school teachers a raise too. And we didn’t just blindly invest in good public charter schools, Newark closed bad ones too.

As Democrats, we can’t continue to fall into the trap of dismissing good ideas because they don’t fit into neat ideological boxes or don’t personally affect some of the louder, more privileged voices in the party. These are not abstract issues for many low-to-middle-income families, and we should have a stronger sense of urgency, and a more courageous empathy, about their plight.
