Elizabeth Warren Shuts Down Meghan McCain's Defense of Trump on Iran

https://www.thedailybeast.com/elizabeth-warren-shuts-down-the-view-host-meghan-mccains-defense-of-trump-on-iran

...
After noting that both the Treasury and State departments have designated the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps a “terrorist organization,” she [McCain] added, “I don’t understand the flip-flop. I don’t understand why it was so hard to call him a terrorist, and I would just like you to explain the change.”

Warren insisted that there wasn’t a “change” in her position on Soleimani, arguing that both things can be true at the same time. “The question is what is the response that the president of the United States should make, and what advances the interests of the United States of America?” she asked. Saddam Hussein may have been a “bad guy,” she added, “however, going to war in Iraq was not in the interest of the United States.”

The senator continued to make her case, but McCain was stuck on semantics. “Do you think he’s a terrorist?” she asked, interrupting Warren.

When Warren said Soleimani was “part of a group that has been designated as terrorists,” McCain sneered and shook her head as she asked, “So he’s not a terrorist?”

“Of course, he is,” Warren answered finally. “He’s part of a group that our federal government has designated a terrorist. The question though, is what’s the right response? And the response that Donald Trump has picked is the most incendiary and has moved us right to the edge of war, and that is not in our long-term interests.”

McCain and other RW news sources are now portraying this as evading the question. Cilizza has already written his hit piece.

But Elizabeth stuck to her guns.

We are SO poorly served by our so-called "librul" media.

There are millions of terrorists in the world, especially the middle-east.
It is stupid to try to kill them all.
If Iran wants to be the big daddy of the middle-east, let them be.
Why should America care? We don't need their oil anymore.
Let China and Japan spend money on military to keep straits of Hormuz open.
China & Jaoan need the oil flowing, not us.

We should use only diplomacy as the tool to deal with any country.

So we should assassinate Kim Jong-un? Instead trump and Kim exchange beautiful letters while north korea is churning out nukes?

Democrats shouldn’t be afraid of using the terrorist label. Warren’s point that the label alone should not dictate tactics is correct.

I didn’t see and won’t watch anything with McCain’s spawn but no democratic candidate should hesitate to use the terrorist label if that’s what happened in the interview.

There’s a hesitation to apply labels on the left. There are good reasons for avoiding labels, but in cases involving violence against multiple people I think it’s better to allow the label and move directly to what our response needs to be.

“Yes it was a terrorist attack and now we have to figure out who was behind it and take action” is much better than “we need to investigate first before calling it terrorism”.

Iran has been accused of sponsoring terrorism for decades. We obviously shouldn’t and don’t invade every country with that label.

I don’t mind admitting something that’s true and getting that out of the way. Why even hesitate calling Soleimani a terrorist? Call him that and immediately move onto the reckless decision. Call it ready shoot aim. Point out the hypocrisy of the trump-kim close relationship. Don’t get tripped up by a twerp like McCain on who’s a terrorist.

Even in cases of a recent attack I would concede the label and say the priority now is to find the attackers, who they are affiliated with, and taking actions to prevent any new attack. Why cede the word terrorist to republicans at all?

Confronting the term islamic terrorist is trickier. I say pursue terrorists by finding out their affiliates and pursuing them. We have to go after the right people.

Note that I didn’t watch the video so I don’t know that I would characterize Warren as having hesitated. I just hate the make them hesitate to use a label tactic.

Thanks for the link. No hesitation. Reading what she said, she first called him a murder then said he was a government official. Both are true.

Makes me hate that twerp McCain more.

And then they even lie about her response.

Don’t know what I’d change in what I said but Warren didn’t even hesitate. The characterization in the original article was way off.

Maybe keep it even simpler for idiots like the twerp. Which statement do you disagree with? That he was a murderer or an iranian official? How does being ignorant of those facts make us safer? But with them even lying about her response even that probably wouldn’t help.

Maybe I’m thinking we have to capture more of that fear mind set. A democratic president got bin laden after republicans gave up. Bumbling around in stupidity and ignorance is why we are in iraq to begin with.

Again thanks for the link. It’s incredibly frustrating
