Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumMarianne Williamson adds 'meaning' to Democratic presidential field with quixotic 'inner' campaign;
When Steve Novick was asked about one of the Democratic presidential candidates earlier this month, he drew a blank.
The long-time progressive activist, whos closely following his partys nomination sweepstakes, had to put the name into Google:
Marianne Williamson. Aha! An American spirituality teacher, author and entrepreneur.
She officiated at Elizabeth Taylors eighth (and last) wedding, a circus-like event at Michael Jacksons Neverland Ranch.

She has a personality that I believe would hinder her from leading a country.

(42,862 posts)Her campaign is a joke. A publicity stunt. I kinda see her as the equivalent of the famous "Deez Nutz".
It's really unclear why she gets a slot in the DU preference polls. The fact that she's included at all diminishes DU's poll, in my opinion.

If electing Trump isn't evidence of a need for spiritual renewal, I don't know what would be.
But I am supporting Inslee, so what do I know?

(1,736 posts)A prime example of how spiritual discourse was effectively integrated into a political speech.
How about the words of MLK, FDR, even LBJ - his last words spoken in public before his death was "we shall overcome." Was that an evidence based statement?
President Obama - did he avoid all matters of the spirit?
We have had evidence of global warming since the 1970s. Has that evidence based understand of the science produced real climate action in the US?
My point is that evidence leads to understanding, but it's often not enough to move us to action. And some of the most effective movements for change have had a spiritual component.
Just saying - I am unlikely to vote for Williamson in the primaries.
