Bernie Sanders leads the Iowa Poll for the first time, just weeks before the Iowa caucuses

Wow! Biden in 4th place?????

Bernie Sanders leads the Iowa Poll for the first time, just weeks before the Iowa caucuses

U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders leads the Democratic field three weeks ahead of Caucus Day in Iowa — narrowly overtaking his closest competitors, who remain locked in a tight contest just behind him.

A new Des Moines Register/CNN/Mediacom Iowa Poll shows 20% of likely Democratic caucusgoers name Sanders as their first choice for president.

After a surge of enthusiasm that pushed Pete Buttigieg to the top of the field in November, the former South Bend, Indiana, mayor has faded, falling 9 percentage points to land behind both Sanders and U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren. Warren is at 17%; Buttigieg, 16%; and former Vice President Joe Biden, 15%.

“There’s no denying that this is a good poll for Bernie Sanders. He leads, but it’s not an uncontested lead,” said pollster J. Ann Selzer, president of Selzer & Co., which conducted the poll. “He’s got a firmer grip on his supporters than the rest of his compatriots.”

Not as strong as Sanders', Buttigieg's or Warren's...

chapter 7's mostly and if you end up in 11 or 13, often people pay pennies on the dollar...in fact as I pointed out from what I can see of Warren new Bankruptcy plan, hers is more punitive. Under the current law, people keep their property. The idea that people must sell all their belonging is nonsense. Under Warren's plan, they would lose most of their assets in order to get a chapter 7. I assume that is to discourage people from running up credit cards and than declaring bankruptcy. But I feel as shitty a credit card companies are...that is not needed.

I have helped several family member and some good friends through the process which is easy and cheap...the major differences between what we had and the 2005 act is there are rules about income (my sis made 150,000 per year and got a chapter 7)you take two courses, can only file every 10 years and student debt is really difficult to get rid of in bankruptcy.

So, Biden's bankruptcy vote was for a compromise bill and it prevented the worst of the abuses the GOP wanted to put in the bill. I would adjust current law to make it easier to include student debt. Other than that leave it alone. Now, what about the Trump and other rich assholes who abuse bankruptcy law? The 2005 law has nothing to do with this...they use Trust law and tax loopholes , legal extortion and business tax rules in order to basically steal from us. That needs to be changed, but that has nothing to do with the 2005 bill. Biden and other Democrats helped keep the worst GOP ideas out...as you may remember Bush was president and it was before we flipped the senate.

You are really reaching here, No matter how great you think Warren's plans to break up this bank or that company and I don't think it is a good idea...you have to win election for that to happen. Now if she doesn't win, and she won't IMHO, we get Trump. Biden would be great on regulation and to suggest otherwise is just untrue. Consider the horror of another Trump term...he is beating both Warren and Sanders in Virginia. I sincerely hope Democrats consider electability or we are screwed. I will vote for any Democratic nominee. But we need voters in the mid west to stop trump from getting an EC win like last time.

47. People change I had a miscarriage where I almost died because the doctor in Georgia waited
Sat Jan 11, 2020, 06:32 PM
Jan 2020

so long...my husband came home and found me in hospital in a pool of blood unconscious...waiting to make sure the 'baby' was not there...I had had an ultrasound but this doctor wanted a hormone drop in blood work. MY husband screamed bloody murder got the hospital ombudsman out of bed and fired the doctor...had he been late, I wouldn't be here ...he was on a business trip. A young intern saved my life or maybe a resident ...not sure. I was left infertile as a result of this and had pretty much a complete transfusion and spent three weeks in the hospital on the maternity floor of course.

I had four kids at home...now the point of this story is before this happened to me I was really squeamish about abortion...but I had been moving towards a pro-choice position...and this sealed it as I realized it was about health care as well as abortion. People can and do change their minds...I did. Warren did as she was Republican during the Reagan years...I am not taking a shot at her ...just using this as an example of changing. I could care a less about her being a former Republican. I was raised Catholic like Biden so I get it. And it is still likely IMHO that Biden will be the nominee so I wish that people would just stop with the criticism...other than policy, who can win sort of stuff...we should not take shots at any candidate...just my two cents. Biden is a progressive...both Warren and Sanders have policies that are more left...Sanders is a socialist Democrat...I know Warren believes in capitalism but she is pretty far left too...I do not think in a center left at best country either will win, Both would be better presidents that Trump and have my vote of course.

Sun Jan 12, 2020, 11:53 AM
Jan 2020

The margin of error is 3.7%, all 4 of Warren/Biden/Sanders/Buttigieg have lead the poll in the last 4 months, only 40% have decided who they are voting for absolutely, 45% have a preference but could change, 13% have not made any kind of choice yet.

Put simply with the margin of error and number of undecided voters, the statistical gap between Sanders and Biden is completely meaningless. No one of any of these 4 candidates is any closer than the other to "winning".

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden
