Ex-Vice President Joe Biden and Sen. Bernie Sanders, the Democrats' best known presidential prospects, lead in the latest national Quinnipiac poll, but movement can be detected back in the field of candidates.
Former U.S. Rep. Beto O'Rourke has climbed to third place at 12 percent, and South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg is riding a wave of favorable publicity -- the New York Times on Thursday -- and has climbed from nowhere to 4 percent.
Two prominent announced candidates, Washington Gov. Jay Inslee and New York Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, are below 1 percent in the poll.
A lust to win has come over the Democrats, as President Trump tries to kill the Affordable Care Act and zero out federal money for the Special Olympics.
"Hungry for a candidate to take on President Trump, Democrats and Democratic leaners put the three B's -- Biden, Bernie and Beto -- at the top of a race where age, race and gender take a back seat to electability and shared views," said Tim Malloy, assistant director of polling at Quinnipiac University, in releasing the poll.

(1,716 posts)I strongly believe that environment is one of the few issues where bipartisan agreement is possible.
He has claimed that as his key issue. Could work well in the general.
