So there's that.
She still got more votes than any candidate not named Obama, despite all that.

(68,632 posts)never see 'it' coming...I would say the same about Warren. Well done. He had it coming after allowing those in his campaign to call her names...elite my ass. I am not a Warren supporter but that was ridiculous and unfair.

(7,871 posts)When he asked her not to run, was it at the same meeting where he claimed a woman could not win? Shameful stuff. I guess he felt entitled to the nomination or something...
And your tweet just basically reinforces with what little respect Sanders cares about """identity politics,""" which most of us non alt-right folks -- and apparently non-Sanders supporters -- would just call civil rights.

(32,640 posts)His statements have implied that women, who he is running against or does not support for office, are prone to expecting people to vote for them because they are a woman, or a Latina.

(113,082 posts)he expressed in 2018 that he thinks in the current atmosphere that it would be tough for a woman to win.
I dont see why people are going bonkers with this as if one side has to be lying.

(113,082 posts)an observational tone, even sympathetic, about the current political climate. That tone may have not conveyed to others because of Sanders manner of speaking, or in the retelling.
Getting huffed about this is overthetop petty, IMO. Media is liking it.
Warren is right to be matter of fact about it and not act bent out of shape the way some want.

(7,143 posts)Neither side is equivocating about the content of the conversation. That Senator Warren is being tactful doesn't obviate the simple truth that someone is lying. Dismissing that prevarication because, maybe, he had a different perspective at the time misses the much larger story.
Senator Sanders could have stated what you just did, but he didn't. He denied the accusation in an unseemly manner. Perhaps he's telling the truth now, but it certainly doesn't appear so.
That should matter, no?

(2,657 posts)Here is what I suspect happened. Remember this is 2018, 2 years after Hillary Clinton lost in 2016. It may be, at the time they were talking, that because of Hillary's loss, because of all of the sexism that she had to endure during that campaign, that Senator Sanders wondered if a woman could actually become President with so much sexism infusing Hillary's campaign.
He may not have been anti-woman at all. Instead, he may have just been discussing what he thought might have been the political realities at the time. I don't know for sure. I am trying to be open-minded about this. As, I mentioned in an earlier post about this subject, if Warren does not want to bury Sanders with this, neither do I. I will accede, assent and agree to her will.

(9,961 posts)... Warren. I just saw Bernie's spokesman say something about Biden's Iraq War vote. Good move... change the subject and find a more rewarding target. However, have something prepared for the debate tomorrow... I would praise Hillary Clinton and say a woman can win, obviously.

(2,657 posts)A woman DID win. She got millions more in votes. It was just because of the weirdness of the Electoral College that Trump got in. So, why would Bernie say a woman could not win when clearly, a woman already did win?

(5,955 posts)A) Warren is a lier, or
B) Sanders is a misogynist.
(And neither is probably true, by the way. All of it can, most likely, be written off as statements being taken out of context.)
But sure, let's give Trump and his evil flying monkey squad more ammunition against potential Democratic candidates. I didn't like this crap when camp Hillary falsely accused Bernie of being a GUN NUT, and I didn't like it when camp Bernie falsely accused Joe Biden of wanting to dismantle Social Security, Paul Ryan style. And THIS Democratic Party self-inflicted wound is the dumbest one yet. Save these tactics for the ENEMY this time. And when I say ENEMY, this time it only BARELY qualifies as hyperbole.

(2,760 posts)There are numerous videos available where Senator Sanders states emphatically that a women could absolutely win the Presidency. He has made it very clear as far back as the '80's that he would support a woman running for President. There is no doubt in my mind this statement is untrue. It is completely out of character for him. Produce an audio recording if you want me to believe this.
