Sanders-Warren fight unnerves progressives

Sens. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) appear to be at war after a longstanding detente, unnerving liberals who hoped to see a progressive win the party's nomination and fear the clash could hurt both presidential candidates.

Tensions between the Sanders and Warren camps were already rising, but they boiled over ahead of a pivotal Tuesday night debate in Des Moines, Iowa, after CNN reported that Sanders told Warren at a meeting in 2018 that a woman could not be elected president.

Sanders vehemently denies the story, which came from four anonymous sources close to Warren. The Warren campaign has not responded to multiple requests for comment.

The allegation rocked the campaigns and came on the heels of a weekend dust-up between the two candidates after a report that Sanders's volunteers had been instructed to tell voters that Warren would be a weak general election candidate because she only appeals to wealthy, white liberals.

would tick off a lot of women voters, not to mention the 2 female candidates remaining in the contest. Wonder if that will be one of the questions in tomorrow's debate?

can be president, but all of a sudden he has changed his tune. This has done nothing but alienate Sanders voters choosing Liz as their second choice. Not a good look. Why would he tell her he didn't think a woman could be president when he asked her to run in 2016. I don't believe it for a minute.

And I welcome it. Amongst other things it will give attendees a chance to defend Hillary's campaign in 2016, and talk about trump, the Russians, and DOJ exoneration.

Quite the contrary.

There are not going to be disaffected supporter in either camp, who will be fleeing to Biden or Pete. If Amy gains some overall benefit from it, all the better.

We are seeing firsthand why Sanders has accomplished so little despite being in Congress for so long. It's like he can't help but piss off would-be allies. Warren basically had an unsigned non-aggression pact with him and he and his campaign still couldn't help but attack her, knowing that he not only encouraged her not to run this time around, but also telling her that he didn't think a woman could win -- how out-of-touch can you get?

10. I would definitely give Elizabeth Warren the benefit of the doubt on this one

Sanders and his team started this brouhaha with Warren claiming that her supporters were from the rarified 'elite,' that she would never be able to expand on that base and that he was the logical choice. Meanwhile the Sanders' campaign had serious issues in 2016 when it came to how they treated their own female campaign workers. The complaints of sexism were loud and messy, a problem that the Senator from Vermont ignored, discounted, and then made lame attempts to tamp down. I had read earlier that Bernie had tried to dissuade Liz Warren from running in the 2020 cycle. If Elizabeth Warren claims Sanders said he didn't believe a woman could be elected, I absolutely believe her. It falls into the category of identity politics that Senator Sanders has complained about so vociferously in the past. Because if you're not on Sanders' page then he insists you're not on the right page.

Just another reason why the man is at the bottom of my list for our nominee. My way or the highway doesn't work for me period and it's a really bad trait for any presidential selection.

primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden
