New criteria announced for New Hampshire debate

Politico

The Democratic National Committee on Friday announced two pathways to qualifying for the next presidential primary debate in New Hampshire on Feb. 7, but they are unlikely to winnow the field of candidates any further.

Candidates can qualify through one of two ways: hitting roughly the same polling and donor marks set for the January debate, or winning at least one pledged delegate to the Democratic National Convention in the Iowa caucuses on Feb. 3.

To qualify via the polling and donor route, candidates need to hit 5 percent in at least four polls approved by the DNC, or 7 percent in two early-state polls, and received donations from 225,000 unique individuals. Unlike previous debates, polls from Iowa won’t count toward qualifying: The only polls that will count are national, New Hampshire, Nevada and South Carolina surveys from a list of preapproved pollsters.

The polling window has also shifted since the debate this week in Iowa. Polls must be publicly released between Dec. 13 and Feb. 6, the day before the New Hampshire debate, which is co-sponsored by ABC News, WMUR-TV in Manchester, N.H., and Apple News. The debate will be held at St. Anslem College, just outside Manchester.

This isn't a new one. The DNC has also said they are open to moving debates around if the impeachment trial conflicts and candidates can't attend or prepare.

Senators may be at a disadvantage campaigning while the trial occurs however. In this day, it isn't so much of a crisis as it is an inconvenience. They could for example appear "virtually" in remote locals like iowa, and do midnight rallies in nearby states like NH and SC.

If they have good ground games it won't hurt them. If they don't, it won't matter.....

of these gatherings that has any resemblance to a true "debate."

What we have had is various questioners - with various biases and agendas - picking and choosing questions and then picking and choosing candidates to answer them. Not all candidates are asked the same questions; some candidates haven't even been given time to weigh in on some of them.

That's mainly because we have too many candidates for a real debate to take place. And, unfortunately, some of the best debaters have had to drop out already for financial reasons.

Ah yes, we've had some soundbites. And we've had the M$M stir up dissension and division where it mostly doesn't exist, in order to create their own narrative.

But no real debate. So far.

I don't know what the solution is in the circumstances. But I am certainly willing to hear more.
