New Hampshire 2020: Sanders Holds Lead; Klobuchar Surges to Double Digits

A new 7 News/Emerson College Poll of New Hampshire Democratic primary voters finds Sen. Bernie Sanders maintaining his lead with 23% of the vote, followed by former Mayor Pete Buttigieg at 18%, former V.P. Joe Biden and Sen. Elizabeth Warren at 14% each and Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar at 10%. Entrepreneur Andrew Yang is at 6%, Rep. Tulsi Gabbard is at 5% and Businessman Tom Steyer is at 4%. All other candidates are below 3%. The data was collected January 13-16, 2020, MM, Democratic primary voters, n=657, +/- 3.8%.

Spencer Kimball, Director of Emerson College Polling, points out that “there was not much movement among the top four candidates in the last month, but Senator Amy Klobuchar jumped 8 points and is a competitor in New Hampshire.”

Lot to like if she is the Democratic choice for 2020. I wonder who would balance the ticket best - Cory Booker? That would be a most interesting combo...

But Booker is running for reelection and could run for both I don't think the optics would be great.

But I think it will be bolder then that if she gets the chance. I don't think she would be afraid to double down and pick a woman. The name that keeps popping into my mind is Stacy Abrams.

It would be a stunning and confident pick. It would really put the Senate into play and it would weld the progressive wing to her.

Oh and by the way she mentions Stacey it seems like every other day.

I am surprised that more leading candidates don't announce their VP pics, earlier in the primary process. I would think more voters would want to know and consider these choices. I think it could be additive to any candidate, not running in the lead.

If you are winning why would you. If you are behind it looks a bit desperate. If you go to unify wings you can alienate your base. You also open up the campaign to incomplete vetting. And now you are running on two records, with twice the attacks.

it could be additive - getting votes you couldn't reach before. And that could be a powerful motivator for the primary voter who might not otherwise consider the candidate. Could make the difference between an also ran and someone who can really snake their way thru the process. It is risky, but I think a smart candidate would want the typical primary Democratic voter to know who they want as their VP.
