NYT endorses Warren and Klobuchar for President

https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2020/01/19/opinion/amy-klobuchar-elizabeth-warren-nytimes-endorsement.html

OPINION

THE DEMOCRATS’ BEST CHOICES FOR PRESIDENT

BY THE EDITORIAL BOARD
PUBLISHED JAN. 19, 2020

American voters must choose between three sharply divergent visions of the future.

The incumbent president, Donald Trump, is clear about where he is guiding the Republican Party — white nativism at home and America First unilateralism abroad, brazen corruption, escalating culture wars, a judiciary stacked with ideologues and the veneration of a mythological past where the hierarchy in American society was defined and unchallenged.

On the Democratic side, an essential debate is underway between two visions that may define the future of the party and perhaps the nation. Some in the party view President Trump as an aberration and believe that a return to a more sensible America is possible. Then there are those who believe that President Trump was the product of political and economic systems so rotten that they must be replaced.

The Democratic primary contest is often portrayed as a tussle between moderates and progressives. To some extent that’s true. But when we spent significant time with the leading candidates, the similarity of their platforms on fundamental issues became striking.

And yet, as much as the rollout of the Very Special Episode has been about the Democratic primary, it has also very much been about the New York Times and The Role of the New York Times in the Democratic primary. And in this state of hyper-self-awareness and inflated ego, the Times has done what the Times does best: choke. Not unlike a few years ago when the Times’ endorsement of Andrew Cuomo for governor consisted almost exclusively of reasons not to vote for him, the paper’s editorial board has decided that, in lieu of any sort of clear-eyed, moral direction, it will offer readers throat clearing, ambivalence, and a vague gesture at who might possibly be OK.

Don’t like Warren? Well, don’t yell at the editorial board’s bosses just yet, because they hate her too, sort of! And don’t you think she’s just a little too patronizing? That’s why they also kind of endorsed Klobuchar, who’s currently polling at just under four percent. Mad about the Times endorsing Klobuchar? You can’t be, because they didn’t. Not really, at least.

The indecisiveness might have felt less grating if the Times hadn’t put so much effort into turning the endorsement into a spectacle in its own right. The promised inside look at how the Times made one of its most ostensibly important decisions of the year turned out to mean viewers spent an hour watching the paper crumble under the weight of its own self-importance. But hey, at least the ratings were probably good.

Still think the "who's best" Democratic choice is inoperative and they should have simply endorsed ANY DEMOCRAT who wins the primaries. Leave it to the voter to figure it out. They all have redeeming and positive attributes when compared to the criminal-moron stumbling around in the WH this minute.

Don't be mislead by the nice things they say about Warren and Klobuchar, who together represent some of the best our party has to offer the nation.

But the editorial board has endorsed a two-headed candidate who doesn't exist, while raising questions about both and thus suggesting they're both inadequate on their own.

And their evaluation of our frontrunner and his goals has so carefully avoided the qualities and realities of what he offers as to be a profoundly dishonest, continuation of the sabotage the NYT is now famous for. Biden's powerful campaign theme is the need to unite to stop the rise of RW fascism and its threatened takeover, a theme that's united most of the nation behind him, but that's not mentioned even to dismiss.

Of course.

The NYT has been proven to have worked systematically to defeat Democrats in 2016. Not only systematically by negative coverage every day, and by hiding or avoiding covering negatives about our opponents, but even by publishing blatant lies, including directly before the election when they reported the FBI investigation into Trump-Russia had found nothing.

The NYT's executive editor who's been working to build RW power ever since he was hired in 2014, Dean Bouquet, is still in charge. That a man known to have betrayed every principle of journalism and severely damaged the NYT's reputation for integrity has not been fired says everything in itself. He works for them.

Speaking of these people they're trying to take out, as I've been reminding in other posts, however the situation may have advanced, we know that in 2015 VP Biden wanted very dynamic, iconoclastic, "I have an idea for that" Elizabeth Warren for his VP workmate, reportedly ONLY Warren.

And that says something extremely important about Biden that the Board's evaluation blatantly denies exists. You don't partner with a Warren (or a turbocharged VP Klobuchar) to "restore the status quo." That summation alone is an obvious, flaming hit in this election that would be hard to top.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden
