1. Wealth Tax and Annual Payment
Mon Jan 20, 2020, 02:21 PM

I get a wealth tax just fine. I do NOT get where Yang, a very likable guy, is going where this $1000. gift to everyone yearly. It sounds a bit like Communism. I don't like it and it is weird.

3. Why

Give trump $1000 a month?

I don’t understand this stuff. Use $ to help our base, lower income workers, underfunded minority neighborhoods with failing schools, etc.

Not giving millionaires basic income. Or free college either.

As far as the video, I agree with his corporate tax policy on tech companies vs a wealth tax. He explained it pretty well I thought.

5. The Freedom Dividend goes to every citizen regardless of their income
Mon Jan 20, 2020, 02:45 PM
Jan 2020

That way it is Universal and there is no stigma attached such as we have seen for decades from our "welfare" system. Everyone gets it no questions asked. It provides all citizens an economic starting point from $1K per month as opposed to the current Zero $'s per month and will create both more jobs but a greater well being for folks. The following is from his webpage if you care to read more there is a link at the end.

Andrew would implement the Freedom Dividend, a universal basic income of $1,000/month, $12,000 a year, for every American adult over the age of 18. This is independent of one’s work status or any other factor. This would enable all Americans to pay their bills, educate themselves, start businesses, be more creative, stay healthy, relocate for work, spend time with their children, take care of loved ones, and have a real stake in the future.

Other than regular increases to keep up the cost of living, any change to the Freedom Dividend would require a constitutional amendment.

It will be illegal to lend or borrow against one’s Dividend.

A Universal Basic Income at this level would permanently grow the economy by 12.56 to 13.10 percent—or about $2.5 trillion by 2025—and it would increase the labor force by 4.5 to 4.7 million people. Putting money into people’s hands and keeping it there would be a perpetual boost and support to job growth and the economy.

6. That money would go directly to our base. And everyone, because we are all Americans.
Mon Jan 20, 2020, 02:50 PM
Jan 2020

It would be used directly in small towns and low income neighborhoods and stimulate those areas more effectively than any method yet tried.

I've been dreaming of the possibility of seeing the opposite of trickle down economics almost my entire life. I truly hope we put this into practice because it will end the GOP.

As for why everyone gets it - the same reason rich people get to enjoy roads and libraries and everything else that is shared.

It also makes this type of program MUCH harder to kill. If only some people benefit, then it is easier to target it for cuts or elimination.

Further, the idea that we shouldn't help the vast majority of Americans because a few rich people will also get it is abhorrent to me.

8. I understand

But disagree. We have much to spend on and not enough funds, as well as an ever increasing debt.

College aid is means tested, such as Pell grants. That’s the way you aid those who need it.

Trump doesn’t need a basic income. I certainly am not in favor of this program.

9. Yes - I like some college aid, but only about 1/3 of Americans go to college.

I prefer UBI because of, not in spite of, the 'universal' part.

We will have the money and while there are some that don't need it as you mentioned, they are still citizens of the country and as such should have the same benefits.

4. It's actually nothing like Communism.

It's capitalism that doesn't start at 0 and it has been championed by people like Thomas Paine, MLK, etc.

Here's a breakdown on why VAT+UBI is better than a wealth tax.

(And here's the entire panel debate about a wealth tax if you're interested.)

I've been intrigued by Yang since I first saw him on the debate stage. What are his ideas regarding climate change and universal health care? I'd like to read more about him. Thanks.

but I'll just give my personal take on these.

I like Yang's spin on the GND - one major difference is the fact that Yang will not ban nuclear energy. I have looked into how this practice has affected the environment in places where it has and has not been tried, and as one would expect, shutting down nuclear results in more greenhouse gasses. So that's important to me.

He also takes a decidedly globalist view of the issue, because of course we can make all the changes we want but if we don't address the situation in places like China, india, Africa, etc, then we cannot win this fight.

As for healthcare - his plan lines up more with Buttigieg's - a public option, which is what we were all pushing for last time. He does recognize that a single payer system would be best however getting that through Congress is the trick. As always, his solutions are pragmatic first and foremost.

Apologies if I am wrong on any of these details this is just my take, and thanks for your interest!
