@JoeBiden
Lets be clear: Transgender equality is the civil rights issue of our time. There is no room for compromise when it comes to basic human rights.

(68,586 posts)grow...but of course Joe Rogan likes Sander's consistency and all. The question is if you are Gay, a POC , a woman who do you trust...a person with a long history that maybe said something thirty years ago you didn't like but has since evolved or the person who accepts and celebrates endorsements now from Racist homophoic anti-women shock jocks who helped attack Sandy Hook Parents with his best bud Alex Jones and spends his life attacking Gay people Trans-people and women? Well I guess we will find out.

(20,709 posts)Jesse Helms, Strom Thurmond. Mike Pence being a decent guy. Is there any bigot who isn't good friends with Joe Biden? I mean, the guy has praised segregationists during this campaign. But I'm sure you're right, none of that matters compared to getting an endorsement from an offensive shock jock talk host like Mayer Pete did.
Still, like Krystal Ball said, it is kind of funny watching Joe Biden morph from buddies with Helms and Thurmond and anti-busing and all that to now super-woke. Who do people trust? I guess people will decide that for themselves.
Personally, I think this woman sums it up best: Biden "probably thinks Trans Rights is a 70's car club."

(52,163 posts)He doesn't say those views are good or right. He says, probably accurately, that Helms learned them as a child. One thing I will give Helms (I live in NC now but moved down here after he retired) he at least was consistent in his views. He wouldn't be behaving like Tillis is now. He didn't run and hide from Presidents of his own party. More than a few NC citizens respected some elements of Helms (his constituent service, his consistency of opinions) while detesting others. The Senate is well rid of him but I have to say Tillis is actually on at least some levels worse.

(20,709 posts)Bernie doesn't say that Rogan's views are right. And a huge number of independent voters listen to Rogan, and a lot of them respect some things Rogan has to say, while detesting others, just like with Jesse Helms.
This is the whole point. Instead of snapping to judgement with purity tests, we should all understand that this is politics.

(52,163 posts)nor is Biden saying Helms is a good Senator. He said he is friends with the man. Well I live in the South and I have anti gay friends though none as bad as Helms. The fact is Rogan doesn't seem to believe in any liberal policies, and Biden doesn't defend any of Helms' policies it should be noted. Bernie implicitly is defending Rogan's . What happens if Sanders wins and Rogan can credibly claim he put Sanders over the top and his ask of Sanders is to stop letting trans kids use school bathrooms and play school sports and to ban puberty blockers. Under Sanders own theory we are to assume that Sanders will say yes since he repeatedly has said that even one dollar from a billionaire means you will do the billionaire's bidding. wouldn't votes from Rogan have the same effect?

(65 posts)Transgender equality is a very important issue of our time, but it's not THE civil rights issue of our time. What about mass incarceration, what about the New Jim Crow?
