Related: About this forumWhy is Warren but not Bernie hurt by Medicare For All?
He's even more adamant in support of it than she is. Regardless of whether you think it's a good idea or bad, it seems odd for the plan to hurt one candidate but not another who is even more strongly in support of it.

(49,004 posts)Warren tried to bring one of those vague proposals into the real world, reality won, and she lost some moderate support when those people saw the plan was too extreme.
And when she tried to adjust to that by suggestng a publlic option first, a bow to reality, the people who preferred slogans and vague proposals went back to Sanders.
Unfortunate for her campaign, but totally predictable.
She ran into a similar problem with a plan for forgiving some but not all student debt, which looks too extreme to moderates, but wasn't enough for Sanders, so he topped it with a FORGIVE ALL THE DAMN DEBT!!!!!!! plan, which is hopelessly regressive and has no chance of getting through Congress and would kill his chances of winning the GE. But hey, it sounds sooooo good to his supporters.
I actually saw some of his supporters whining on Twitter that the Warren plan would forgive "only" $50,000 of their student debt. Awww.....

(9,959 posts)... it might have to do with their supporters. First, all the candidates have a core of very passionate supporters. That being said, I think Bernie has a larger core/base group that are not going to move. Elizabeth has a capacity for a larger overall group, but they are more fluid - they can move to another candidate if she modifies positions. Just my impression.

The example he uses on his stump speech is a family making 60k will pay 1200 a year for comprehensive health care.
( you make a million a year you pay $38,000)
dental, hearing aids, home health care and eye glasses included
No deductible, no co payments, no out of pocket expenses.
First year everyone 55 and above covered
second year 45 and above covered
third year 35 and above
fourth year everyone in

(38,687 posts)How many votes does it take to pass a bill in the Senate?
How many votes do we have now?
How many votes are we projected to have in 2020?
How many current Democratic Senators have publicly said no to M4A?
How many have said yes?
Regarding funding.
When is last time a income tax increase passed the Senate?
I already know the answers. And they say no pony.

(22,913 posts)To the extent that she has been "hurt" by this I think she took a hit that dates back to a couple of debates where it seemed to some that she was dodging giving straight forward answers as to how Medicare for All could be done without increasing any taxes on the middle class. Even though Warren subsequently has offered more details as to how it would be financed, more so than Sanders perhaps, earlier in the debates Sanders was viewed as owning up to the actual costs more than Warren was.
While some may have felt Warren was "ducking" in refusing to admit that yes some taxes will go up to pay for Medicare for All, Sanders did not hesitate to admit that under his plan taxes would indeed go up. From that he pivoted to stress that the additional tax burden falling on middle class families would be a small fraction of the money they would save by slashing co-pays and deductibles that today make routine health care all but unaffordable for many middle class families even though they are currently insured.
Warren didn't have her answer ready early when it mattered and I think it cost her not being able to explain in a timely manner how it could all be possible without raising any taxes

How Elizabeth Warren Misread the Politics of Health Care
She got caught in a policy duel with herself, and was late to understanding how important health care is to the Democratic base.

(13,783 posts)... common sense. I, for one, had a sinking feeling when she raised her hand on that debate stage re MFA. I was mollified when she injected some common sense back into her position. So Warren supporters might drift away. Sanders supporters have never been troubled by the need for common sense and possible compromise.

Totally blows an interview with Daily News, is exposed as having nothing, Daily News is criticized for giving Bernie a sad, cover is provided for him, then whatabout Hillary.
Did Bernie Sanders Botch An Interview With The Daily News? Its Not That Simple
https://www.huffpost.com/entry/bernie-sanders-daily-news_n_5704779ce4b0a506064d8df5
He botched it bad.
"This wasnt an interview about policy details. It was about who the media has decided is presidential and who isnt, who is serious and who isnt. The Daily News and much of the rest of the media dont think Sanders is qualified to be president, and thats the motivation for an interview meant to expose what the media have already decided is true."
Yes, they've seen him dodge questions, so they stuck to their guns, demanded answer, he didn't have answers. Blame the media. And whatabout Hillary.
"During his interview and elsewhere on the trail, Sanders has been beaten up for not specifying how he will pass his agenda through Congress, which observers astutely note is controlled by Republicans rather than democratic socialists. Clinton does not get the same question, though it applies equally to her more moderate agenda. (Greg Sargent notes that he has raised concerns about this with regard to Clinton.) The answer that Sanders gives and gave again to the Daily News does not, in the eyes of the media, qualify as an answer. But there are only a handful of possibilities:"
Then they buy into his theory. People believe. It could happen!
3) A political revolution sweeps Republicans out of office and changes the contours of the debate.
"Now, you can argue that No. 3 is highly unlikely, especially considering the fact that Sanders has only a slim chance to win the Democratic nomination. But if he did win, the country would have just elected a socialist. Does that change what is possible? Can he mobilize his army again in 2018 and 2020? All of it is improbable, but its a theory, and its one that millions of people believe in."
Warren gets grilled, Bernie slides by on improbable theory. Which he trotted out again at the debates. And slid by again. This is a crime.
Later in New Yorker. Nobody Expects the Spanish Inqusition Defense:
"As her husband strives to win the hearts and votes of New Yorkers, Jane Sanders is speaking out about the New York Daily News interview that lead many to doubt and Hillary Clinton to openly question his viability as a candidate. When asked about the interview on CNN, Jane Sanders compared it to an inquisition and said that the Daily News didnt tell Bernie Sanders that it planned to publish the transcript."
Asking candidate Bernie questions = inquisition.

(59,504 posts)moderate support. Therefore when Medicare for all IMMEDIATELY became an issue - some of her moderate support was hesitant. Then when she moved to a transition support, some very progressive people left.
That more ambiguous position could become a winner, but it means that she is always walking a tight rope.
