I've worked too damned hard for downballot Dems to watch the wrong POTUS nominee take them out

I have spent a ton of time, money and effort helping local, state and congressional Democrats get elected around the country over the past three years, and will not hesitate to prevent any presidential candidate from attaining the nomination if I believe they will cost us those seats or will list a finger for them unless they pass some kind of purity test. If that gets some people upset, so be it. But I will not let three years of my life go down the drain.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

As many others say, I know who I'm not voting for...

I like more of what some candidates say they plan to do than others. IMO it looks like final candidate is probably from Biden, Sanders, Warren, Buttigieg, or Klobuchar (no, I don't think Stayer or Bloomberg have much of a shot), all of whom are polling ahead of Trump in the latest Faux News polling. As everyone does, I have my own order of preference but they've all mastered the English language and have actual plans. And we should make sure that they all support Warren's pledge to release documentation withheld by the White House...

All that being said, I wonder if Bloomberg will really put his apparatus behind ousting tRump. Stayer should help too. Ideally just keep running Trump's own words against his actual accomplishments, or reality for that matter.

And that's regardless of who the nominee is. We do have to work to get the constituency out, especially those who stayed home in 2016. I'm in Illinois, and I'm helping out in a neighboring district because there will not likely be a GOP nominee in mine. Also helping in Southern Wisconsin. I think boots on the ground and getting voters out is the way to go and if Doug Jones can win in Alabama, any Democrat should be able to win their seat with the anti-Trump sentiment that has already led to one blue wave.

Where are the 5? Arizona, Colorado, Maine, North Carolina, Iowa and outside chances in Georgia and Kentucky. Right now, McConnell is in a dead heat and his opponent is outraising him 5 to 1. Richard Ojeda, a coal miner favorite, has declared in West Virginia where Trump has lost a lot of support for failing to deliver on his promises and where his trade deals have hurt the continued decline in the coal industry. That might be a surprise. South Carolina seems to be a lot closer of a race than thought, maybe people are waking up to loonie Lindsey.

Alabama is almost definitely a -1.

Maine, Colorado, and Arizona are all 3 quite possible, and I'm both hopeful and donating a little for their primaries with support for Hickenlooper in Colorado, Sara Gideon in Maine, and Mark Kelly in AZ. Will donate as heavily as I can after the primary's over.

both NC and GA also fall into the possible, but that would be against the odds.

We would have to completely sweep the battlegrounds AND these 2 Republican leaning states to get a net gain of 4 for a 50/50 Senate.

I can't see anything beyond fantasy that would get us to a +5.

For my own state of Texas, I've been canvassing every weekend for MJ Hegar. I realize this is a very long shot, especially after the damage Beto did for us before he dropped out, but come the day after elections in November of next year, I want to feel that I did every damn thing I could to get Cornyn out.

I think the House majority is secure regardless. There are somewhere around 25 Republicans stepping down this time around and that usually has to do with putting fingers up in the wind and seeing where the polls are headed. I think the gain will be at least 10 and as high as 25 depending on how well Democrats get the segment of the constituency that didn't show up for Clinton to the polls.

I think the Senate is +5.

If you think center dems, independents and moderate Republicans are ever voting for a socialist no matter if Hillary and Joe camp in their backyards. But if by some reason that Bernie was able to beat Trump because people are so desperate, the point the poster of this entry is still valid. A Sanders presidency will set the democrats back years to come in national legislative races as well as state and local races. You have to remember most of the country is not like AOC's district in NY. or Massachusetts or Vermont or California, but still they are democrats
A Sanders presidency cripples their/our chances to have any voice in the future. Yes I will vote and work for Sanders if he is the nominee. But the aftermath for democrats will not be pretty.should Sanders win.

To already know in advance which candidate is the right one and the wrong one when not even one vote has been cast. And to know which purity tests are ok and which are not - because there are purity tests all over this forum, including from supporters of your preferred candidate. But YOU have it all figured out and are able to see the future. Truly amazing.

If I were to vote in a presidential

..Bernie does not unite, he divides. Biden unites us against Trump.

..Bernie will by nature, create division. He already has. Of course supporters don't see that, because they haven't been there. I have been there. McGovern created division by his nature. Sure he was correct on important issues, but he was the wrong person for the wrong times. Bernie is a divider, not a person who unifies. He is also the wrong person for the wrong times..

I will never forget the returns coming in for McGovern..So disappointing. I couldn't believe it, but now I do. You want proof? Proof is in the one sentence below...

..Look at how Bernie has divided us?

Bernie is not one for spreading the love among other Dems. Would he even endorse moderate Dems like Conor Lamb or Collin Allred? After all, they're not socialist and don't pass the purity muster. I could easily see a nominee Sanders and congressional Dems running away from each other. Bernie will wreck this party. And don't even give me that shit about his voters flooding the polls. They will vote Bernie and no one else.

are being sincere, or whether they just want to screw up the results.

Since Trump has no competition he has to worry about, some of his followers might choose to help someone they view as a weaker candidate to win the D nomination.

So it's not really a plus that he attracts cross-party votes. That tells us nothing about the motivation of those voters.

The fact that down ballot candidates in swing districts are supporting Joe Biden is great ptoof. No down ballot candidate in a swing district wants an extremely weak candidate like sanders at thr top of the ticket

For example Colin Allred flipped a seat in Texas in 2018 and is supporting Joe Biden

The Texas GOP has targeted Colin who will likely lose is a divisive candidate like sanders is on the top of the ticket. Why do sanders supporters want to gib]ve the GOP control of the House?

BTW, I have donated to Colin and some Democrats in swing districts having a very weak candidate like sanders would doom these candidates

...On Oct. 13, 2000, 15,000 zealous progressives packed Madison Square Garden for one of Ralph Nader’s super rallies. They paid $20 each for admission, evidence of their passion, since political rallies are almost always free. That year, many on the left were disappointed with the Democratic nominee for president. Al Gore was a wonky centrist and a stilted speaker who appeared to possess few core principles. For progressives, his association with Bill Clinton, icon of triangulation and political compromise, counted against him. At a time when the left was outraged over our corrupt campaign finance system, Gore was dogged by questions about money he’d received from sketchy donors with ties to foreign governments.

At best, Gore offered progressives a continuation of politics as usual. True, the Republican in the race seemed a right-wing buffoon, but Nader told his followers to vote their hopes, not their fears, and his message about citizens banding together to overturn entrenched, amoral corporate interests spoke to many people’s deepest aspirations. Bush and Gore, he said at Madison Square Garden, are “both for cracking down on street crime but ignoring corporate crime, which takes far more lives.” In response, the crowd erupted in chants of “Let Ralph debate!” Young people flocked to Nader, and hip musicians played his rallies: The lineup in New York included Eddie Vedder, Patti Smith, and Ani DiFranco, whose ’90s cool had not yet evanesced.

Nader concluded his almost hourlong speech by calling the evening “the most memorable political rally of the year 2000.” Some who were there felt they were witnessing the flowering of an epochal social movement. “The protest movement that has been growing on a grassroots level, as evidenced by the World Trade Organization demonstrations in Seattle, reached its political coming-of-age last night,” the Village Voice wrote....

At the time, it felt like nothing short of a rebellion against consumer capitalism. Nader had made his name campaigning against the blandishments of corporations, first as a consumer advocate and then as a gadfly political candidate. “Who designed this economy, anyway?” he asked at Madison Square Garden. “I think it’s time to have it designed as if people mattered, not as if General Motors, Exxon, DuPont, and the other corporations matter!”

But the years since then in American political life have disproved every fantasy on display at the Garden.

I and a large number of real democrats have been working hard to turn Texas blue. After the 2010 elections, the GOP had 101 members of the Texas state House compared to 49 Democrats. Now we are 9 seats away from flipping control and having the ability to block partisan redistricting this cycle. Texas is scheduled to get three additional congressional seats

sanders would kill down ballot candidates in Texas. I am working too hard to see this work thrown away by having an unelectable candidate at the top of the ticket
