Biden is speaking of what he feels is politically possible.

And given that we are all literally seeing what climate change already looks like, it is critical that we redefine what is politically possible.

Recommended.

We cant'afford business as usual and half measures.

We need to change what is considered possible.

Many things have been labelled as impossible, until they became possible, and were done.

Political will is necessary, and the vision to see what is necessary.

11. The charge was against one claim in Bernie's plan, not Bernie...

That's silly.

"You can't have zero emissions by 2030" that was the part of Bernie's plan that Biden said scientists disagree with.

15. Actually the claim was zero from electric and transportation by 2030
Wed Jan 29, 2020, 09:54 PM

Sanders' Green New Deal is a sweeping proposal that calls for "100 percent renewable energy for electricity and transportation by no later than 2030 and complete decarbonization by at least 2050" while investing $16.3 trillion over ten years to create an estimated 20 million new jobs, support vulnerable communities and a just transition for workers, and fund a massive infrastructure project.
and I agree "that is silly."

Grand promises are easy for someone who knows that they will most likely never be in a position to make them a reality.

They can always talk about what 'might have been" if only big pharma/big coal/big establishment hadn't been so afraid of their awesome power and influence...

12. Looks like Biden was mistaken in his comment
Wed Jan 29, 2020, 12:29 AM
Jan 2020

"After speaking to a crowd of about 200, Biden greeted voters, and woman who identified herself as Ann asked Biden about his plans to tackle climate change.

"Bernie's plan is pretty impressive," Ann said. "What they're comparing their plan to — "

"Not a single solitary scientist think it'd work," Biden said, interrupting. "You can not get to zero emissions by 2030. It's impossible.""

https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/biden-swipes-bernie-sanders-climate-plan-not-a-single-solitary-scientist-thinks-it-will-work

Biden is probably correct when he asserted that no scientest thinks that emissions can be reduced to zero by 2030 but he is incorrect in thinking that is one of the goals in Bernie's climate plan. It isn't.

"Meeting and exceeding our fair share of global emissions reductions. The United States has for over a century spewed carbon pollution emissions into the atmosphere in order to gain economic standing in the world. Therefore, we have an outsized obligation to help less industrialized nations meet their targets while improving quality of life. We will reduce domestic emissions by at least 71 percent by 2030 and reduce emissions among less industrialized nations by 36 percent by 2030 — the total equivalent of reducing our domestic emissions by 161 percent."

https://berniesanders.com/en/issues/green-new-deal/

What the IPCC says:

"As the report outlines, if we want to hold the line to 1.5 degrees, we have to slash emissions by about 45 percent from 2010 levels by 2030. Then we have to reach net-zero around 2050. The scenarios for 2 degrees are a little more forgiving, with a lot more devastation as a result: 20 percent by 2030 and net-zero by about 2075.

These are reductions planet-wide."
