Is BS misrepresenting what Biden actually said?

"Not a single solitary scientist says it will work".

The discussion was about phasing out fossil fuels by 2030, not about the BS plan or the green new deal.
The "it" in the video refers to zero emissions by 2030.

How did that recorded exchange morph into this?

C-SPAN was at the event and has video (with closed captions) of the entire exchange.

The exchange starts at 38:30

No mention of zero emissions by 2030. No mention of zero fossil fuels by 2030. Here is specifically what he says:

Reaching 100 percent renewable energy for electricity and transportation by no later than 2030 and complete decarbonization of the economy by 2050 at latest.

"Complete decarbonization of the economy by 2050 at latest" - that's EXACTLY what Biden is saying!

And here is the letter from the scientists that he's touting:

https://t.co/DLhOxVxaPh

"The Green New Deal you are proposing is not only possible, but it must be done" - his proposal calls for decarbonization (i.e., fossil fuels) by 2050

They’re discussing scientists in the context of when we can reasonably anticipate reaching zero emissions. The young woman thinks it can be done by 2020. That’s what Biden is referring to in the misleading clip.

The BS campaign needs to correct their transcript by replacing their bracketed insert of words Biden never said with the accurate quote. The BS campaign can recreate their user generated video with the full clip of the entire exchange instead of their out of context version.

That’s the honest and ethical thing to do, especially given the fact that BS has already been called out by fact checkers twice this month for misrepresenting both an opponent’s and his own record in just the past month alone.

Biden makes the comment right after the woman says Bernie's plan is pretty impressive. Bernie's plan calls for a domestic reduction of emissions of 71% by 2030. The woman never mentions the year 2030. Where did Biden get that year from?

Dissembling is a strategy that won't work here given the fact that Biden never said anything about the BS plan or the green new deal and that the BS campaign took a quote out of context and then changed some of the words for good measure.

And they've done it before.

Why did Biden counter the woman's statement ""I think Bernie's plan is pretty impressive. What they're comparing their plan to — "" with "Not a single solitary scientist think it'd work. You can not get to zero emissions by 2030. It's impossible."

As I've said in other posts, I think Biden just made a mistake. Thinking that Bernie's plan called for acheiving zero emissions byy 2030 when it actually calls for reducing emissions by 71% by that year.

Personally, I don't think it's much of a deal. Given how much candidates have to talk and answer questions, it's a given they'll sometimes get their facts wrong. And it's also a given that opponents will try to make political hay out of a candidate's mistakes.

I'm not trying to bash Biden here. I'm just trying to make the point that he most likely made a simple mistake.

It mandates the executive powers (if federal) to incoporate the requirements by law. Who do you think did all the work for the ACA? The legislature? No, it was passed onto the federal government to create the framework for it. Just like the GND would do. Legislation is law that is requiring somebody to "do the actual work" of following the law. Not some magic wand that makes everything happen by itself.

Which means it will be voted on as a set of goals to pursue.

The resolution is nonbinding, so even if Congress approves it, nothing in the proposal would become law.

https://www.nytimes.com/2019/02/21/climate/green-new-deal-questions-answers.html

Any aspiration it it would have to separately be given full detail, funding sources, etc. and be enacted into law ... a long and difficult slog indeed.

How can you advocate for something you don’t even understand? The ACA was legislation; this is just a Congressional resolution, with no force of law whatsoever. The legislation would have to be enacted for the executive branch to implement it.

Shouldn't he be the focus of Bernie's ire. Or Trump. Biden is not the problem.

"The vote was 57 against the resolution in the 100-member chamber, with 43 Democrats voting “present,” avoiding an up-or-down vote. Republicans won over Democratic Senators Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema and one independent senator, Angus King, who usually votes with that party.

The Green New Deal, introduced last month by Democrats, marked an initial attempt to define legislation to create government-led investments in clean energy like wind and solar power, infrastructure and social programs."

"Republican Senator Lindsey Graham told reporters the Green New Deal was discussed with Trump at a party lunch on Tuesday. Graham said Trump told Republican senators: “Make sure you don’t kill it too much because I want to run against it.”

"We will reduce domestic emissions by at least 71 percent by 2030 and reduce emissions among less industrialized nations by 36 percent by 2030 "
