Has Trump 'dirtied' the Biden Name?

The New York Times, 1-21-2020

" Trump Tried to Dirty the Biden Name. He May Still Get His Chance. "
………….

" Senate Republicans are threatening to give President Trump what even a foreign government knew was inappropriate: the dirtying of a political rival. What an irony it would be if Mr. Trump’s impeachment trial itself yielded the very result for which he is being impeached: the corruption of America’s election integrity by the baseless denigration of Mr. Trump’s leading rival. "

Biden delivers his words clearly, he doesn't dodge issues, he looks the audience in the eye. Sure he nuances here or there, but you feel like he's being as open as he should be and as honest as he can be. I don't feel like he's bottling up the truth to prevent me from seeing it, nor creating lies and smokescreens to deceive me. Compare him to McConnell. Or both Bushes, or Lindsey, or Tom Cotton, McCarthy, Gingrich. They are totally spinning it. You won't find Biden releasing more pollution and telling you the rivers are cleaner than they've ever been.

So no, I don't think they've dirtied up Biden. Biden is like Obama in that regard.

Joe Biden has a phenomenal record as follower of the rules. He didn't use political power to make himself wealthy. All of the wealth he has now is from what he and Jill did with their own money they made from their jobs which led to real estate purchases, money from books they have written and other normal things like pensions and retirement accounts, etc.

There were ugly lies about him on the Senate floor during the impeachment trial. So it will probably get worse and would explain some recent drops in polling.

His favorable has gone from +31 to +18
https://news.gallup.com/poll/257612/biden-maintaining-majority-favorable-rating.aspx

They did the same thing to Hillary. She'd recovered to about +30 favorable as Secretary of State in 2012. Benghazi & email pounding .... as of 2019, -29

Here's Hillary's favorable numbers from Real Clear Politics with many polls including Gallup largely showing the damage Benghazi & the email scandal and GOP attack ads did.
https://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/other/clinton_favorableunfavorable-1131.html
Gallup generally reflects those results whether you like them or not.

Unlike RCP, Gallup keeps doing it for politicians so their numbers are more current.

For Biden, the RCP numbers are much worse than Gallup
https://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/other/joe_biden_favorableunfavorable-6677.html
In 2018 Joe was +20 to +33.
Now, he's -5

All this BS crap Trump and the GOP are spewing about Burisma and the Ukraine is exacting a cost to his public perception.

Obama's favorability wasn't immune to attacks like "he's a Muslim" or "he's a Kenyan" or "death panels" either.

So Joe is in pretty good company. But we can't ignore the fact that this lying the GOP is doing about him is hurting his candidacy.

It's created a set of swamp-type images. Even though there's no proof that Biden or his son ever did anything illegal. It just "looks bad" that Biden was in charge of Ukraine policy and then his son was hired for this job.

Doesn't matter that the Trump spawn and spawn-in-laws are profiting from Trump being in the WH.

Not by definition, anyway - unless it can be proven that Vice President Biden actively helped Hunter Biden in some way.

As far as we know, that did not happen.

In fact, the opposite may be true, as the Vice President continued to pressure the Ukraine government to redouble their efforts against corruption, potentially putting young Biden in harm's way because of his choices.

Sometime around late Summer early fall there will be a swift boat type media blitz on the Biden, Burizma thing if he get the nomination. How much will people believe it or how effective it will be, is the big question. It appears that Dimitri Firtash, the Russian Oligarch who is in Austria and being held for extradition to the US, is funding the ground work through Rudy. Rudy is getting the supposed information from the ex Ukrainan prosecutors, who were dismissed for corruption, or pro Russian politicians. In other words it will be Russian propaganda.

There are big differences such as Giuliani going around making a fool of himself on every television network in the country, Trump being betrayed by multiple close associates, and the networks have done a much much better job not giving as much legitimacy to the lies. It's a very different narrative being painted than before.

The GOP voting to not call witnesses while 75% of the public wants them won't help their case either. Then you throw in Trump hiring Dershowitz, who is probably the worst attorney in the nation to hire right now.

Basically, Trump and the GOP have done nearly everything wrong up to this point, and the needle hasn't moved in any direction. The current dire situation is despite their smear campaigns, not because of them.
