Hey folks, our reporter misheard the question to Biden in a crowded gaggle, and we certainly...

Biden won’t say whether Sanders could unify Dems as nominee

MUSCATINE, Iowa (AP) — Former Vice President Joe Biden wouldn’t say Tuesday whether he thinks Bernie Sanders could effectively unify the Democrats if the Vermont senator wins the party’s presidential nomination.

“We have to unite,” Biden told reporters in Muscatine, six days before the Iowa caucuses. “I’m not going make judgments now. I just think that it depends upon how we treat one another between now and the time we have a nominee.”

Biden has previously promised to support the Democratic nominee, regardless of who it is. At some stops along the campaign trail, Biden has pledged to “work like hell” to help any of his rivals defeat Trump. The Biden campaign said Tuesday afternoon that the former vice president would support the eventual nominee.

we don't wind up with a bitter brokered convention.

https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/2020-primary-forecast/

If you add Mayor Pete's predicted delegates to Biden and give Warren's to Bernie then we'd end up with around 1965 for Joe and 1809 for Sanders. Need 1990 for the nomination.

Do the delegates choose individually or do they get together and make a decision to move as a bloc? What if there are large groups that want to go to different candidates?

Of course, I'd like to see Warren rise and the choice be for Bernie's delegates. I think a final choice being between Biden and Sanders sets us up for a repeat of 2016. Biden-Warren will be much pleasanter regardless who comes out on top.

" The two have jousted over their records on Social Security, foreign policy and trade. "

" And Biden has ratcheted up his suggestions in recent days, without naming Sanders, that the party will lose big in November if it makes a sharp leftward turn. "

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — As a congressman in the 1990s, Bernie Sanders expressed an openness to making “adjustments” to the tax and benefit structure of Social Security. He also praised an overhaul of the social safety net program signed into law by President Ronald Reagan that reduced benefits and increased taxes on working families.

Sanders’ presidential campaign and allies have highlighted similar remarks by Joe Biden to attack the former vice president and make the explosive charge that Biden was an outspoken proponent of slashing the program.
