Shock poll puts Mike Bloomberg at No. 2 behind Joe Biden in Florida's Democratic primary

Florida Politics

In a major divergence from national polling, former New York City Mayor and billionaire philanthropist Mike Bloomberg is sitting in the No. 2 spot in Florida’s Democratic presidential primary.

A St. Pete Polls survey conducted Sunday and Monday among 2,590 Democratic voters from across the state showed former Vice President Joe Biden with a commanding 41% lead. But Bloomberg, not Elizabeth Warren or Bernie Sanders, landed in second place with 17% support.

The poll was commissioned by Florida Politics.

The results released Tuesday show a staunch contrast to another national Quinnipiac University poll out the same day showing Bloomberg in fourth place with 8% support, though that’s still an improvement from where he had been.

Though the results only represent Florida voters, they are still significant. Not only is Florida a major swing state and a big pick up in the primary, St. Pete Polls was the first polling outfit to publicly forecast Trump winning Florida’s GOP presidential primary and one of the first to publicly predict Gov. Ron DeSantis beating former Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam in 2018.

Every night I see anywhere from 2-4 Bloomberg ads, every single night and I am in NE FL. I am not surprised at all that FL is interested in Bloomberg. He's the real thing that drumpf pretended to be and isn't - a successful businessman who had companies that were good to its' workers and who isn't a total fraud and criminal. If Biden or Bloomberg are the nominees, FL is in play. Think anyone else would have a tough time here? I will vote for Biden in the primary, and will vote for whoever is the person who wins the Democratic nomination in the general. I will also do GOTV efforts through the FL Democratic party for whoever it is, even if it's Bernie or Bloomberg, the 2 who are last on my list of preferences.

To reduce the deficit we must cut entitlements

Q: Your thoughts on the sequester?
BLOOMBERG:
Winston Churchill once said, "You can always depend on America to do the right thing after exhausting all other possibilities." We've had a democracy for 235-odd years and it works in the end, and that's what's in important. Sequestering is here. It will go on for a while. It's not going to be the end of the world as we know it. And everybody was saying, "Oh, the worst-case scenario is exactly what we're going to implement." And now they're into the real world and they'll try to find ways to do more with less, and then hopefully Congress will come together and modify sequestering to cut things back where we can afford it and not where we can't. And keep in mind, no program to reduce the deficit makes any sense whatsoever unless you address the issue of entitlements, Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, interest payment on the debt, which you can't touch, and defense spending. Everything else is tiny compared to that.

The big question then would be would Bloomberg actually put his wallet behind the Dem nominee, like he said he would, even if that nominee is Bernie or Warren.
