The Strokes to Play Bernie Sanders Rally in New Hampshire

The Strokes will perform at a rally for Democratic presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders February 10th at the Whittemore Center Arena in Durham, New Hampshire.

“We are honored to be associated with such a dedicated, diligent and trustworthy patriot — and fellow native New Yorker,” said Strokes frontman Julian Casablancas, who also voiced his support for Sanders ahead of the 2016 primary. “As the only truly non-corporate candidate, Bernie Sanders represents our only chance to overthrow corporate power and help return America to democracy. This is why we support him.”

To promote the rally, the Strokes and the Sanders campaign also shared a poster designed by Kii Arens that tweaks the band’s chrome logo to spell out “Bernie Sanders,” featuring a prominent silhouette of the Vermont senator.

Prior to the Strokes’ show in New Hampshire, Sanders will receive support from Bon Iver and Vampire Weekend at two separate rallies in the lead-up to the February 3rd Iowa Caucuses. Bon Iver will perform at a January 31st rally at the Horizon Events Center in Clive, Iowa, while Vampire Weekend will play an acoustic set at the U.S. Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids February 1st.

For those unfamiliar with "The Strokes"

The Strokes are an American rock band from New York City. Formed in 1998, the band is composed of singer Julian Casablancas, guitarists Nick Valensi and Albert Hammond Jr., bassist Nikolai Fraiture, and drummer Fabrizio Moretti. Following the conclusion of five-album deals with RCA and Rough Trade, the band has continued to release new music through Casablancas' Cult Records.

The band's debut album, Is This It (2001),[1] was met with widespread critical acclaim and helped usher in the garage rock revival movement of the early 21st century; it was ranked No. 8 on Rolling Stone's 100 "Best Debut Albums of All Time",[2] No. 2 on Rolling Stone's "100 Best Albums of the '00s",[3] No. 199 on Rolling Stone's "500 Greatest Albums of All Time", and No. 4 on NME's "Top 500 Albums of All Time".

Having all these musicians volunteer to play is a good candidate move . Maybe someone likes the musicians but not Sanders so much , or they don’t know anything about him , but then go along to the rally for the free music as a fan and get caught up in his campaign and wind up voting for him.

I played Is This It to death during the horrible Bush years, my 18 year old who was born the year that album was released still plays it to death! Fantastic news, thanks.

There were a lot of people that showed up for Vampire Weekend in Iowa that couldn't vote in the caucus. One of the people that attended was an intern for a Republican.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden
