Pete Buttigieg on MSNBC now showing the world what a grown man acts like.

Steady and grounded, he is putting a lid on the hysteria being ginned up by the media.

He is so mature and so grounded and so smart.

Good for him.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

He may have been very good at the job I don't know. But the job would be the middle management/consultant work that everyone is familiar with. As we would say in the Army "he went to work in a green suit". It is an important job.

But what I find most interesting is that we know so little about it. Not even how well he did it. This should be a defining part of his life and we really know so very little.

Mayor Buttigieg was a Navy an intelligence officer. As a result, he will not only be interested in any intelligence reports, he will understand them and know the questions to be asked.

Mayor Buttigieg joined the Navy Reserve because of his concern that military service was not being equally shared across race and economic lines. He did not develop bone-spurs when he received mobilization orders. Service of this country in war is a good and honorable thing. Such service is not "barely a thing."

It is unfortunate that you had a bad experience with your Army service but after my twenty-eight years of service, I am at a loss to know what is meant by "that type of officer." I encountered all types of people in the Army - some great people and some less so - rather like America.

There is a lot to recommend Buttigege (the fact that I have to look up the spelling of his name every time notwithstanding). He is the anti-Trump. He's an intelligent, gay, one-time married, sincerely religious, well-read, polyglot, veteran.

If Buttigege could find some way to gain support among AAs - enough support to translate into general election enthusiasm - I'd be on the Pete Bandwagon playing my horn for all I was worth.

The only AA folks I know well enough to discuss politics are my age - i.e. old. Old AAs in my part of the world are deeply religious and they just can't get over the gay part.

Switched over to him today, and made my first donation to his campaign this morning, and signed up for his campaign notifications.

I do still have a lot of concern on if he can actually swing the critical swing states, there aren't many polls that have included him in the vs trump match-ups, but the ones there are don't inspire huge confidence.. but he hadn't really had the national stage yet, and the way he speaks, I think he can overcome that given the platform.

I think Trump will be terrified to actually debate him, and won't even agree or join in any debates against a Candidate Buttigieg.

I think Pete would also have some GREAT.. ammo.. to bring to the fight. I'd sooooo love to hear him retort "I served, I didn't have bone spurs".. I'd toss an extra donation to him just to see trumps face at that one alone.

If he's going to really go for it, he needs to start getting his campaign ground game in high gear in the swing states. If he can get a few polls out there showing him beating trump in them, I've a strong feeling that will give him a big bump. There's a lot of people that are really looking at the EC map this time around.. much more so than normal.

I started with Kamala went to Warren and then Pete. I did switch several months ago.

I think he gives us the best chance to beat Trump and its not close. Just watch his speech last night. He preforms way better than the other candidates on stage - in speeches and debates. The guy is so smart and speaks so well.

Once people get to know him they flock to his side.

"He should run for the house"?

The guy is in a Presidential campaign and might have won Iowa or finished 2nd. Is out raising everyone other than Bernie in money and you dismiss him like that?

1) He can connect with black voters.
2) His sexual orientation will not be a significant factor in the general.

It's bizarre. If you like Pete and his platform, vote for Pete. Why base it on what others think?

My biggest concern in this election is winning in November. I could be happy with most all of our candidates but my vote will go to the one who has the best chance of beating Trump. I like Pete but I see some weaknesses with black voters and with the GOP exploiting his being a gay man. Perhaps Im wrong.. and I am willing to listen to others who think differently. I don't think that is bizarre at all.

my vote being swayed by what "black voters" (or any other group) may think or what the GOP may exploit. The GOP will seize on whatever they can and attempt to tear down all of our candidates. Think Gore, Obama, Hillary. Hell, they tried to portray John Kerry and Max Cleland as unpatriotic - there is no depth to which they won't sink.

I'm just finding this whole concept of my vote being swayed by others rather fascinating, but I guess to each his or her own.

Is there any doubt that if Wesley Clark had been the Democratic nominee in 2004 that some version of the Swift Boat Veterans for the Truth would have leveled wild and untruthful allegations against him?

Abe raised a good point.
Uncomfortable for sure, but it's out there.
In a largely black and latino area here and just reporting my personal observations, but many here would never vote for a gay man.
Wouldn't even consider it.
They'll hold their nose and vote Trump or more likely not vote at all.
Again, it's a shame, but it's true.

It does appear attitudes have changed substantially over the past decade or so where sexual orientation is not an issue for the vast majority of voters. I hope that holds true if Pete is our nominee. He certainly is an impressive candidate who would match up well against Trump.
