NYT: App Used to Tabulate Votes Is Said to Have Been Inadequately TestedWell, we all know Bernie was in charge of the software testing team.
Also, he set the schedule over the last four years to only test the software for a couple of hours. Probably during the Super Bowl.
And he wrote all the code.
Yup, advocating for technology is EXACTLY the same as poorly executing a process using technology.
Along with this "logic," did we let Republicans blame JFK for the Challenger explosion?

(1,652 posts)If he were to win, there'd be people blaming him for all sorts of things, even if they helped other candidates.
For example, in this case, his proposed changes added more transparency which is helping other candidates, like Biden.

Here are two things I like about you right away.
1. You are being completely logical. You are looking at things and thinking critically.
2. Someone other than Bernie is your first pick but you aren't letting that effect your objectivity about this issue.

(1,652 posts)That's like blaming JFK for the challenger explosion.
Worse, Sanders has supported paper ballots.
For example:
S.1472 - Protecting American Votes and Elections Act of 2019

These hit pieces against Sanders have to stop.

(11,605 posts)But that doesn't make him or his campaign responsible for the problems with the app or the tabulation system.
I think most of the people who pointed out that Bernie pushed for the 3 sets of results were doing so in response to claims (most of which I think come from Trump-bots on Twitter, not real Bernie supporters) that the whole debacle was a conspiracy to screw Bernie. In other words, it was to ward off conspiracy theories, not to blame Bernie for the mess.

(21,646 posts)When local party officials asked the state party about issues they had with the app, they were referred to a dedicated staffer who was not able to solve the problems.
We had had so many complaints about the app that we started telling our chairs that if they were having problems with the app then you should call in the results, Bagniewski said.
The state party did not provide any training on how to use the app, he said, adding that while the caucus trainings are done at the county level, the app itself came from the state level.
Local officials had trouble downloading the app, getting a PIN to log in, and activating it even when they had a PIN, Bagniewski said.
App Used to Tabulate Votes Is Said to Have Been Inadequately Tested
The app was quickly put together in the past two months and was not properly tested at a statewide scale, according to people briefed on the matter.

(26,335 posts)And the Neera Tandens of the world are sending out tweets that this is Bernies fault.
It was the Bernie people that wanted actual voter totals counted for more transparency. Rather than just counting delegate equivalents the Sanders people wanted the raw vote totals gathered.
Ironically, the same people squawking they want an actual primary are now blaming a guy advocating for a system that attempts to make the fucked up caucus more resemble a primary.
Some people lose all sense of irony where Sanders is involved.
Yes, the caucus should go away. Since Iowa refuses to do away with a caucus, gathering vote totals is the next best thing.
Its not Bernies fault the party fucked up a simple process with an app that set off alarm bells weeks ago.

(1,652 posts)My point is that Bernie didn't make the app. He certainly didn't create a timeframe to work on it for just 2 months. If he actually advocated for technological change, that was 4 years ago, 24 times the time length as 2 months. And the NY Times story indicates that there was inadequate testing, which again isn't Bernie Sanders. If you asked him, he'd say test that very well and on a big scale. He certainly wouldn't be for skimming off the top (reducing quality) to make a bigger profit. That is antithetical to his stated principles.
Now the reason I bring up the Challenger explosion is that I am sure it took years to build and do it. And decades before (a 24x timescale just like here), JFK advocated for going to the moon. He didn't advocate this specific ship, wasn't in charge of the testing, etc. It's equally ludicrous to have blamed him for that tragedy.
These hit pieces against Bernie need to stop, but just as importantly, I'd like to see people think critically before falling for them.

(10,202 posts)I guarantee you if it was Bernie supporters who pointed out the problems, if it was Bernie who was not in the lead, it would be oh those awful Bernie Bros. They are whining because they did not win.
The problems would be ignored and Bernie supporters would have been attacked by the corporate media if the tables were turned.

primary today, I would vote for: Joe Biden
No one said it was "unfair," but instead that greater transparency was needed. And that is true. And everyone now appreciates all the transparency.
Nor was the specific change requested 4 years ago, this specific app, nor was bad testing procedures a thing asked for. No, that was someone else.
So, yes, this is like blaming JFK for the Challenger explosion.
