Related: About this forumBreaking News on Rachel Maddow: Iowa Caucus Phone Jamming
In Iowa on caucus night, Trumpers organized to jam our phone lines to make the backup plan for app failure, jam. That's why caucus leaders couldn't get through.
Rachel showed pictures of their messaging encouraging each other to keep calling because it was working and the caucus people couldn't get through. When the app failed, Dem leaders had posted the call number online. I wonder who started it, and if it was a GOP professional.
Several years ago in NH, the GOP hired an answering service to jam lines for rides to the polls to help in Sinunu's election. People went to jail for that.
Regarding this, Chuck Schumer said:
(on Maddow) Remember that justice will flow like a mighty river, and the arc of history bends toward justice; don't give up.

(23,337 posts)Paper ballots. We KNOW how to do this. No apps. No computers. Weve got to get over the need for immediate results. Weve got to get this right.

(80 posts)For the first time ever, we had candidate preference cards. We wrote down our candidate for the first and second iteration (count). These were collected. That's what the verification will use.

The preference cards were just that--cards. No need to seal them because everyone knows who you're supporting. You're standing in that candidate's group. They count you, then collect cards as verification. Tom Perez wants to use those in the review.

(10,916 posts)There is nobody to blame for this but the people in Iowa who made that dumb decision.
If you post a number like that, the trolls will find it. They did.

(22,819 posts)Perpetrators of the jamming calls? Once one person shared it, it was "out there" to be shared freely. Nothing stopping anyone from sharing it after that. There definitely needs to be a less, vulnerable to exploitation, system.

These should have only been opened in the event of a problem, and multiple dial-in numbers used that are assigned to only certain specific precincts, with a single primary and a contingent number. If someone opened an envelope and took a picture and posted it, that photo would have identified the location or set of precincts involved, and it would have only compromised just one primary and one alternate number, only impacting a subset of precincts.
There should have been unique userids and passkeys for each precinct to help prevent phone imposters.
After all these years, you'd think they'd have their shit together. It's not rocket science.

It's not in our DNA to behave the way Republicans behave.
Unfortunately, we are going to have to learn to play dirty and be 20 steps ahead of them.

(13,582 posts)The DNC runs a red team that looks for ways to disrupt caucuses and primaries. In this case - they obviously didnt predict just how corrupt Trump supporters really are.
One thing is sure in my mind, we gotta get our shit together if were going to beat Trump and his flying monkeys.

(13,582 posts)There are probably a dozen ways to avoid this kind of rat fucking. Sadly Iowa ran a flawed caucus that was open to all sorts of errors. I wonder if a well run primary is a more secure and reliable process.
