Among the liberals in the party (reflected in Iowa caucus and New Hampshire primary), Mayor Pete is the preferred center-lane candidate. This does not shock me.

Wait until Super Tuesday. We'll know a lot more about the party as a whole then.

2. What's curious to me
Fri Feb 7, 2020, 12:15 PM
Feb 2020

is that, whether or not it's decided who "won" in Iowa (Buttigieg or Sanders), which was essentially a tie, and whether polls such as this suggesting Buttigieg is rising in a New England state that is home territory to both Sanders and Warren are deemed accurate, that there has been absolutely no media narrative at all about this young mayor since Monday.

After all, it should be a story: a young person who came out of nowhere to run for president appears to have risen to the top in the first two primary states (as much as I, and others, discount the importance of these two states.) But there is none. My spouse says that this is what happens in sports media: if they've developed a narrative in which one team was predicted to win, but then end up losing, the after-game reporting still focuses on the once touted coach and players of the losing team. The narrative can't be upended. Thus all the stories are about Biden and Sanders rather than anything about Buttigieg. It's weird.

And there's another story that has remained pretty much silent. How much of the loss of Biden's earlier lead is attributable to the impeachment sullying about Burisma and his son? Even if people know it to be sheer mendacity, they are likely to see it as something that would become a big drag in the general ... and, understandably, everybody is focused on looking for a win, no matter who the candidate.

These are just my thoughts these past few days as I scan the New York Times and others. Is it impossible for the media horse-wagon to change narrative streams in mid-course? I guess not.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

Excellent question.

Something evaporated Biden's dominating lead, he was the polling frontrunner for months on end. But now polls, and more importantly, actual voting has suddenly swung against him.

If the Biden Campaign is indeed falling out of contention, where will his supporters go?

To 38 year old Buttigieg?

To Billionaire Bloomberg?

To Democratic Socialist Sanders?

or... maybe... a consensus candidate like... Senator Elizabeth Warren?

She will never be left 1v1 against Bernie. Because Bloomberg doesn’t have to beg for $ from donors.

If you are waiting for Biden to crater so you get his voters, keep dreaming. That’s what Pete, Amy and Bloomberg are waiting for too.

If Warren wants to be president, she’s got to go through Sanders first. If he becomes the progressive pick, she is toast.

Fri Feb 7, 2020, 02:29 PM
Feb 2020

We will see next Tuesday.

Racially diverse Nevada after that in the middle of the month.

Then heavily weighted to African American voters SC is at the end of the month.

It's the trend coming out of Iowa and those 3 race we should not ignore.

As for Iowa being unrepresentative, it is 90% white, that is true. But all the candidates were white except for Andrew Yang, so that is not a good excuse to wave away Biden's poor 4th place finish. Our Democratic base is over 60% white voters after all, we can't just discount them.
