This is what a STUNT looks like.
Cory Booker and Elizabeth Warren are pretty close to "off my list" with Gilibrand, because anybody falling for this shit doesn't have what it takes to lead this nation out of this quagmire.
Also, I thank GOD every fucking day that the VA Gov and Lt. Gov. refused to step down when they tried to pull this shit on them.
Here's to hoping our nominees wake the fuck up.
<rant off>
*UPDATE* Facts matter...and so do motives.
Our friendly little accuser wrote this a while back, but very recently deleted it...WHY?

(23,108 posts)That is not at all what is being reported, I've read CNN, MSNBC, WaPo and NYT and never once saw it reported that it was "a slow kiss to the back of the neck". All have said it was a brief kiss to the top of her head at a time when she was really nervous and showing it - far, far different than the slander you are so set on proving.
Provide a link from a non-rw source if this has any shred of reality

(24,122 posts)but, since the neck attaches to the back of the head, I don't see that as determinative... the point is that Flores described it as a BIG, SLOW kiss to the back area of her head while, at the same time, Joe was sniffing her hair. It was NOT a BRIEF kiss to the TOP of her head, as YOU misreported. Certainly, you can appreciate the difference... if you can't, I'm mystified, that's all I can say. As I was taking deep breaths and preparing myself to make my case to the crowd, I felt two hands on my shoulders. I froze. Why is the vice-president of the United States touching me?
I felt him get closer to me from behind. He leaned further in and inhaled my hair. I was mortified. I thought to myself, I didnt wash my hair today and the vice-president of the United States is smelling it. And also, what in the actual fuck? Why is the vice-president of the United States smelling my hair? He proceeded to plant a big slow kiss on the back of my head. My brain couldnt process what was happening. I was embarrassed. I was shocked. I was confused. There is a Spanish saying, tragame tierra, it means, earth, swallow me whole. I couldnt move and I couldnt say anything. I wanted nothing more than to get Biden away from me. My name was called and I was never happier to get on stage in front of an audience.

Why am I telling another Biden being Biden story? Because I believe that the character of the person who occupies the Oval Office is of the utmost importance, and because I believe that Biden, far from a bad man, is an unusually good one.....
Bidens disregard of this protocol is telling. He enters a room, just as he enters a debate about union rights or domestic violence, with a predisposition to lend an ear to the least powerful.
Judging from the reaction to the recent spate of Biden stories, time is up on avuncular attention, now interpreted as at best pernicious paternalism and at worst septuagenarian sexual harassment. In the cultural revolution under way in America, men like Biden are invited to offer their head if their prior actions deviated from the new norms.
No doubt, character counts. I, for one, admire Bidens deviant decency.

As the author of the piece says, try an experiment: look at the photos and imagine, Paul Ryan's face instead of Biden's. Or Dick Cheney's.
And the fact the women are smiling doesn't mean they're enjoying the touching, the closeness of a man who is not a loved one. That's what women do, smile, because it is a public moment and we are taught not to embarrass anyone or make a scene. We wait for the moment to pass.

(5,812 posts)Sen. Chris Coons addressed a 2015 photo this weekend that captured a moment between his daughter and Joe Biden that critics have used as evidence of the former vice president's alleged inappropriate behavior.
In 2015, when Coons was being sworn in as a U.S. senator, a photo captured Biden leaning into Coons' teenage daughter, whispering in her ear and then kissing her on the head. To many, Coons' daughter seemed to be uncomfortable in the moment.
But Coons told The Washington Post this weekend that his daughter "did not think of it as anything."

Not that you're ever likely to see a woman do such things. A woman can think herself the most affectionate person in the world, but she knows instinctively that such behavior would probably be interpreted sexually. Why shouldn't men likewise restrain themselves?

(4,187 posts)I dont necessarily fault Biden because hes a man from a different generation and has expressed respect for the changing standards of behavior. What bothers me is all the DU sexists and misogynists telling women to shut up, saying they dont care how women feel, and attacking Harris and Warren over this. They have clearly not learned anything from the 2016 election, and I fear that their misogyny will give us a second Trump term.

(173 posts)Not even up to the level of the Franken behavior, which I did not think was of a level to disqualify him. I thought he was someone who was sacrificed for the good of the party, and did that voluntarily, so that there could be no mistaking the party's position on sexual harassment.
It's a dicey issue, however, because people do misunderstand cues and gestures all the time, and such misunderstandings ought not to lead to accusations, especially after the initial shock. And yet, such sexual harassment can begin with just those kinds of gestures, and so someone who has experienced harassment might well over-react. And that ought to be taken in stride, too.
Rather than hearing about Biden's hair smelling habits, I'd like to know where he stands on a Green New Deal, raising taxes on billionaires, a higher minimum wage, and some of the financial reforms that Elizabeth Warren is proposing.

(1,336 posts)a picture can also tell a lie. The photo with Franken that you refer to was staged for the camera -- it wasn't for real. And how convenient that it was pulled out and put into circulation just after the Senator had torn a strip off Sessions......
Gillibrand and her fellow Senators and Reps should hang their heads in shame for the treatment they gave Franken. Perhaps they were simply jealous of him, since he proved himself way smarter than they have ever been.
As for Biden, give the guy a break. Having lost his wife and children at a very early age, he knows how important it is to cherish those who are alive. His showering of affectionate (non-sexual, non-violent) gestures to BOTH women and men proves it.
And BTW, I spoke at a fundraising event a few months ago. I was hugged by two people on the Foundation Board afterwards -- one was a woman I knew fairly well, and the other was a man whom I didn't especially know (or admire). They hugged me to say Thank you for my remarks. Was I offended? Of course not.

(115,735 posts)another candidate or staff of a candidate, the GOP, individuals with their own motives, whoever - is trying to do a Karl Rove on Biden, which is to turn a strength into a weakness. Of all the candidates Biden probably gives the strongest impression of being a really decent, warm, honest person (which isn't to say some other candidates don't seem that way; just that Biden has such a long-standing nice-guy image). So, if you want to take him down, you want to ruin that image. What's the best way to puncture that image? Make him out to be a perv with wandering hands instead of a sweet guy who just likes to hug people (like Al Franken). Tack the whole thing disingenuously to the #MeToo movement and, you hope, there goes some of your strongest competition.
I am still steaming over the sexual swiftboating of my excellent Senator, Al Franken, and although I don't know whether Biden would be my first choice when the primaries get going I sure don't want to see him get the same treatment.

(6,007 posts)This is going to destroy the metoo movement. Do we really want to coarsen our culture? By that I mean, I want to live in a culture where all the older people think of younger people like they would their own children. If that same "incident" had happened and she was his daughter, everyone would have applauded him for being such a supportive dad. There he was, traveling to an event to support this young lady, and as she was about to go onto a big stage, he affectionately showed his fatherly support. A beautiful gesture.
I want that to be the model for how people should behave. And not have it degraded down to "if you get anywhere near me, you are VIOLATING my space." Meaning we all have to be afraid of showing any affection to anyone. Ridiculous. AND if someone is mentally or emotionally damaged (and there are many reasons why people get damage) then they need to learn how to politely say that they are not comfortable with displays of affection. It should be up to them to correct the behavior and not up to everyone else in society to act like unfeeling robots.

(17,863 posts)This is ridiculous.
Social clues are funny and sometimes hard to recognize.
Two examples -
The first is a family friend, my wife's old roommate, who double dated with her boyfriend when my wife and I were dating. The goodbye greeting was always hugs (initiated by her). She was shot in the head and we drifted apart (they live in a different community). A few years later I went to hug her at her boy's graduation, and she jumped back like I threatened her. Back to always letting the woman initiate a hug which I find uncomfortable anyway.
A few months back. A family friend of my mom that I met for the first time. Went to say goodbye at the end of the night. I stuck my hand out to shake, and the whole room was offended. She grabbed me and hugged me and our lips touched. Very uncomfortable.
My dad was a very touchy person (as well as my mom). I am not like that. My wife is not like that. My daughters are not like that. I barely hug my daughters. Not like my dad who would hug me all the time growing up.
So was my dad a creep? If my mom's friend decides to run for office, should I complain about the inappropriate touching?
For God's sake people, grow up.

They all showed a lack of leadership in killing someone's career without so much as a phone call or asking questions about the (false) allegations.
Then some of them (Kamala Harris was first) jumped on the bandwagon to interfere in N Carolina's state elections to try to kick out the Governor, again without asking questions or even questioning whether it was her place to inject herself into a state's elections.

Its not clear this was even necessary. Other than journalists, it was hard to find anyone who honestly thought Biden is a hugger was news; it surely wasnt new. Even Republicans had come to his rescue. Sen. Lindsey O. Graham (R-S.C.), in a reminder of the old Lindsey Graham, remarked, I just want to say Joe Biden is my friend, and I know him very well, and whatever he did it may have been inappropriate but it was not driven by malice or misconduct. Sens. Susan Collins (R-Maine) and Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) also vouched for him, as has Meghan McCain.
Biden conveyed in his message why he touches people to soothe, empathize and encourage. In saying that he would resist the notion that politics has to be antiseptic, he showed that hes in public service not for glory but to help others. In short, he helped voters remember the positive qualities hes well known for, which even political opponents attest to.

I was anxious, sad, and seriously swollen with emotion but was able to get a chance to meet the Vice President. Many of the local Democrats remarked what are YOU doing here? when I showed up in line at his photo opportunity. I explained my affection for VP Biden because of what I had been through, and no one blinked an eye, everyone understood. He was a good man. No matter your party.
When my turn came up to have my brief meet-and-greet and photo taken with Vice President Biden, I was nervous. Why AM I here?? But immediately, he knew my story (his staff had briefed him) and he brought me in for a long, big hug. It was exactly what I needed. We discussed Beau and my father. We talked about the recent loss of my mother he understood family tragedy. He was close, nose to nose at times and hand in hand, but it was in that personal touch that I KNEW he was a human. Not a Vice President, or a politician, or someone that was giving a speech later that night. He was a real person, who had been through real things. Just like me. We mustve talked for five minutes far more than the paying Democrat contributors got! but it was so genuine, no one would complain. Especially Mr. Biden, communicating and comparing stories with me was clearly a highlight for him amidst his political duties. I left with a giant smile on my face, the first in days, and was uplifted for a long time after. I met my hero, and he was exactly what I had expected him to be.
My point in telling this story is that, while Vice President Biden has a very personal and affectionate way about him, it is only because he loves people. He loves peoples stories. Man, woman, child. Father, mother, son, daughter, spouse. He knows people are hurting and can relate and offer genuine support. And human touch is the most basic form of relaying that. There is no ulterior motive he just wants to get close to everyone. Because he cares about their stories. And is human. And THAT is what matters most and crosses all party lines.

Biden has been in the public eye since the 1970s, and unlike Hillary Clinton, who claimed the public never really knew her, voters feel like they know Biden pretty darn well. Many voters dont remember anything before his vice presidency, his demonstrably warm relationship with President Barack Obama, his remarkable dignity after the death of his beloved son Beau, and his emotional goodbye to the late senator John McCain. He has established a level of emotional intimacy with voters that few politicians attain. Hes the chatty next-door neighbor, the avuncular relative and the co-worker who remembers everyones birthday.

(9,497 posts)*I am a woman. I have a Mexican side of the family, so touching is very prevalent in our interactions. The white side, not so much.
This woman told me that her fiance had died unexpectedly of a heart attack a few weeks before. She was visably distraught and I asked her if I could hug her. And she said "No". I wanted to hug her, it would make me feel good but I realize that touching is a TWO way interaction and if one side is not wanting it, that means it shouldn't happen.
I didn't hug her. I supported her in other ways that she was able to receive easier.
This isn't hard, people.
