Seriously, I got 'splained on that ad nauseum online from brogressives when I expressed pleasure that the Democratic field was so diverse - because that meant I wasn't paying any attention to 'qualifications."

If women believe themselves to be better at leadership than men, they are "dragon ladies."

She is suspect of expecting you to simply support her because vagina. As someone once said, "It's not enough to say, "vote for me, I'm a woman." No, that's not enough."

If you express any delight at being able to vote for a woman, then you are dismissed as just voting for her because woman... just like the RW accused anyone voting for Obama of doing so because he was black.

As we've seen...

That attitude simply shows an assumption that a woman or a POC is likely not as qualified as a white straight man, because hey - look who's been doing it for so long...

And it's not like there are people who are voting for white straight men because they don't trust anyone else to be a strong effective leader. But we're supposed to understand that...

Personally, I always thought that being the primary caretaker in a large family would be the best training for leadership. That's usually women - mom and grandma have to be judge, jury, mediator, manager, keeper of the budget and a multitasking master.

Look at Speaker Pelosi for a prime example. And the deep resentment of many bros whose last experience with a female authority figure was MAAAAHHHHHMMM. And any woman in authority is going to trigger those issues.

Just as Obama triggered issues deeply ingrained in those who grew up assuming the white male default in authority figures was absolutely grounded in nature, and that POC are naturally less capable, and therefore Obama was "faking it" and could not possibly be what he appeared.

We can't let those old ideas keep us trapped with nothing but old white men for leaders.

the former president of Costa Rica and Nobel Peace Prize winner came to an invited speaking engagement put on by the polisci dept. The take home message he had, back in 2000, was that in order for humanity to move forward, women MUST have power. I'll never forget that. I spoke to him briefly afterward but mostly I thanked him for getting it and going out and using his voice for our cause.

Finally, two decades later, there is a chance to make it so, we can't miss this opportunity because I feel this is our last chance for survival.

Sat Feb 8, 2020, 09:02 PM

To say that it's just as easy for a qualified POC or woman to get to the table is white male privilege.

The discomfort displayed when enthusiasm for bringing them to the table, in the form of "you're ignoring qualifications in your rush to see someone who looks like you in office, so your motives for supporting a woman or POC is suspect and must be challenged" is just breathtaking in it's privilege.

Even right here....

because we don't really care about qualifications, just the gender. That was so awful....

But I guess we're all prone to that kind of groupgenderthink, and need to have someone like you shake your finger at us silly hens and remind us that we're forgetting it's qualifications that matter, in our high fiving, because until a woman who is actually qualified for leadership exists, then we have no business even saying in joking exasperation "we need only women leaders..."

Thank you, thank you, for your wisdom in pointing out that anyone agreeing with that expression of exasperation doesn't KNOW that they are then obligating themselves to support ANN COULTER FOR POTUS because, you know, woman.

What would we DO without menfolk to come along and remind us "not all women?"

Just like the GOP thought we would?

Anyone who was supporting Hillary was just going to automatically support another ticket with a woman, right? Us feminists just want a skirt in office, any skirt really. We're not looking for qualifications here. If we did that, we'd just save time and vote for the man - but we like being contrary.

I mean, the GOP certainly went and found a woman who had some sort of high level political position, but not a long record that could be scrutinized, had never expressed a pro-choice thought, and would be physically acceptable to the men in their base (that eliminated Liddy Dole and Christine Todd Whitman), right?

So we just went with the skirt, and we would do the very same with Ann Coulter.

Just like the GOP knew we would.

Well, some are, but you have to be very, very careful, because you want to be very sure that you're not just voting for her because she's a woman. Because you know, there just aren't that many qualified women out there, and you have to be careful that you're not getting one that's just doing this because she's an ambitious harpy, or just THINKS she's qualified. That's a problem with supporters of women, or POC as candidates - letting the idea of voting for someone who looks like you take over logic...

Because if you're supporting a straight white man, that totally means you're putting qualifications first, male ambition is natural, and you don't need to justify your motives for supporting them. They're the default - and you can be sure that you're at least going to get authority and competence.

So I hear.

So I think she has the coolness under fire aspect down. Remember, she had an addicted parent, they are rarely not abusive. Her calm demeanor does speak to me, and her sense under fire, you learn these traits when growing up under such pressure.

And may I take a moment to remind everyone how she dealt with that POS Kkkravenazi during his hearing when he tried to belittle her with his rude counter questions about what she likes to drink.

Her response to his belligerence was to simply wait until he was almost done and simply asked him to answer the question.

She's not talking about pardoning any of the criminals and she does speak to many, can win in red districts and probably has little to no baggage worth giving a shit about.

I was hoping she'd poll better early but I think she could carry this to victory in the end. I am most adamant that I want to see a woman president this time around. We were robbed in 2016, it's only fitting that the tangerine Idi Amin be beaten to submission by a woman this time.

I believe that even in the Obama administration this also was an issue, even with more women in the room where the decisions were being made.

So when a woman in a high level meeting proposed an idea, the other women in the room would do what they called "amplifying" that it was her idea.

When it came time for them to talk, they would then say something like, "Marie, that idea you had about making those specific changes in the strategic plan budget was great, and I think it's going to be very effective."

And the next woman who spoke would do that as well.

I have been on a film shoot when a woman on the crew said, "We could solve the problem with the lighting and the exit by moving the desk to the other side of the door." There were some smiles directed her way, some muttering, then a few minutes later a male crew member said, "Let's move the desk to the other side of the door!" and the director said, "That's a great idea! Do it!"

The female crew member just looked at me, and I smiled in solidarity.

This hairy pantheon is filled with lofty examples. Boston Magazine once described James Levine, who was suspended this week as conductor of the Metropolitan Opera amid sexual midconduct allegations, as having “a wiry gray fan shaped like the wings of an F-16.” The hair of another noted maestro, Seiji Ozawa, is so famously expansive that the website classicfm.com reckoned it to be least 50 percent “cumulonimbus.”

Not long ago, The Washington Post published a photo essay entitled “Great moments in Bernie Sanders’s hair.” The gallery presented the Vermont senator’s minimal manlo in various incarnations, including “When it gracefully flowed in the Washington air” and “When it puffed itself out like a glorious mane.”

“I don’t think you would find many bankers or lawyers with those haircuts,” said Anne Kreamer, the author of “Going Gray: What I Learned About Beauty, Sex, Work, Motherhood, Authenticity and Everything Else That Really Matters.” “It’s a mark of individualism: ‘We are not of the ordinary rank and file.’ It marks considerable self confidence.”

Kristen M. Barber, an assistant professor of sociology at Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, sees evidence of class status. “There is a sign there that you are not worried about being judged,” said Ms. Barber, the author of “Styling Masculinity: Gender, Class and Inequality in the Men’s Grooming Industry.”

“These men have the privilege of not caring,” she said. “The idea is that they’re too smart and busy. It almost becomes symbolic of how dedicated they are to their art and their science.”
