Biden Sees Problem With Running Mate Who Backs Medicare For All

Former Vice President Joe Biden said Sunday he would be unlikely to choose a running mate who supports Medicare for All, essentially ruling out progressive rivals Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren.

“There has to be some correlation between their views and mine,” he said, speaking at an event in New Hampshire, which holds its Democratic presidential primary on Tuesday.

“For example,” he said, “if I pick someone who had a view that they insisted that we do Medicare for all, which costs over $35 trillion and has no chance of becoming law and would not support my plan for Medicare for those who want it building in Obamacare and building the public option, that would be a real problem.”

Biden hinted that he would consider former South Bend, Indiana Mayor Pete Buttigieg as a running mate, but later backed off when asked about his criticism a day earlier that Buttigieg is unqualified for the top job.

Awesome. That will mobilize the progressives. Can it please be Tim Kaine? Because he was awesome.

Just because someone doesn't support M4A does not make them a centrist. That person can be progressive in many other aspects besides M4A.

As a millennial, I get annoyed at how apathetic and picky so many young people are, but I guess when you've spent most of your life generally worse off than any other generation and you see only Bernie and Warren actually fighting for improving your life, it makes you pretty jaded.

I guess a lot of young people are so fed up with this country they'd rather just let it burn to the ground if we're going to be stuck with status quo centrists or right-wingers forever.

Only Bernie and Warren fight for them?

BS

If young voters want people to listen to them, they should stop spouting crap like that. Progress is hard work. It doesn’t come easy. And people fought and died in the streets to get the civil rights that were rightfully theirs but were denied.

They are NOT REMOTELY worse off than prior generations. It’s BS.

I'm sure Bernie will pick Elizabeth to be his running mate.. . she will just have to adopt Bernie's plan to implement M4A faster than she had planned. No biggie though!!

Bernie/Elizabeth or Elizabeth/Bernie 2020!!

in the unlikely event that Bernie is nominated. Two New England liberals will turn off most of the rest of the country. I even have doubts that Bernie would carry New Hampshire in the general election.

I do wonder what will happen after Super Tuesday once Biden trounces the rest of the field. Most of my friends that supported Bernie last time have moved on to other candidates.

she will never get anywhere near the VP EVER, and not just because Sanders is not going to win the nomination

she has burnt far too many bridges overall to go anywhere in national Democratic politics

Teachout walking her smear attempt back

Bernie even tossed her under the bus, and rightly so, for this shitshot

people too stupid to realize it’s probably the best approach long-term.

Unfortunately, the majority feel that way. Biden is smart to avoid that loser. Besides, a Public Option will likely achieve MFA long before forcing people — who would like to try it out — to take it.
