I am MORE undecided as the polling keeps changing. My only criteria is the ability to beat Trump

I will vote for ANYone who can beat Trump. So far that candidate has not emerged.

Over time, I have favored, in chronological order, Klobuchar, Harris, Warren, and again, Klobuchar.

I will not discount ANYONE, and that includes Steyer and Bloomberg.

I have decided to put my favored issues on hold. The ONLY thing that matters is beating Trump.

On a side note, Jason Johnson, who I do not particularly like, said something that really got my attention. He said that he's hearing from some African Americans, particularly some AA women, that they are making a calculated, pragmatic choice to put aside concern about Stop and Frisk and give Bloomberg a look. Like me, they are putting aside pet issues in favor of a candidate who can beat Trump.

Beating Trump is the only goal. There is NO Plan B.

primary today, I would vote for:

There is only beating Trump. My personal ideology is meaningless right now. I don't care about my feelings or anybody else's. None of it is worth shit if we can't get rid of Trump. We all need to get off our high, politically-pure horses and figure out who can take Trump down. Period.

Based upon issues, experience or whatever. Please stop trying to guess who everyone else thinks will win. Because if everyone is doing the same thing it just continues to be a mess.

We have a bunch of great candidates and all are able to beat Trump. All are able to lose as well. The primary will sort it out if everyone votes for who they like best. We don’t have an option to let the party leaders decide.

Just vote for who you feel is best and be ready to work your ass off for the whole ticket once we have a candidate.

We lose a lot of great candidates because of the amount of money spent in Iowa and NH, two of the whitest states in the union. Our party is not as white as those states by a long shot. We shoot ourselves in the foot spending a year and all our money in those two states.

I will vote for the nominee, I just fear one will be chosen who will get slammed in the general when they have to deal with the entire country and not just the coasts.

Vote for who you think is the best person on the day you vote, and trust the masses to come up with a good one.

And I don't just mean 2016. I also mean 2000 and 2004. I could even make an argument it didn't' work in 2008 and 2012 for the Republicans.

Yes, beating Trump is important. But just being about beating trump doesn't' work. We get neither a good candidate nor do we beat trump.

I have explained this so many times and I just don't have the patience to explain it in detail again.

Stop telling me who you want to vote against and tell me who you want to vote for.

Do not pay attention to the head-to-head polling with 45. There are so many things going on with those polls that they should not be given any time, let alone trust. Instead, focus on the issue which are important to you and vote the candidate who best represents those views.

We will need a candidate that can get all of the Dem vote. (we're all voting for the Dem candidate, right!!??) In addition to majority of the Independents and many sane GOP voters. Hitting on all three of these demographics will also help us maintain the House and retake the Senate!! Only a couple candidates can do this. I believe Bloomberg has the best shot at crushing Trump. Personally, I'm almost there with him.

20. Am I wrong?
Mon Feb 10, 2020, 03:29 PM

I'm not suggesting that the Democratic candidate pool is the best that Dems could put up. But every one of them is intelligent, thoughtful, experienced, mostly honest, and mostly decent. You may prefer one over the others and believe that everyone else is a moron for supporting someone else, but, hey, that's life.

As for who can beat Trump. I'm not entirely sure that this is quite the right approach. Sure, the candidate is important, but, as noted, every one of them has something going, or they wouldn't be where they are at this point in the process. I think the more important point is whether whoever gets the nomination will run a campaign that will beat Trump. Will that candidate ensure that there is a rapid response team to respond to every trump tweet or insult or lie? And to respond instantaneously and in volume. Will that candidate use the micro targetting capabilities on FB? Will they put out hundreds - thousands - of news releases, news reports from every quarter. Not from Macedonia, but from hundreds of social media saavy Dems. If Bloomberg is not the candidate, will he spend hundreds of millions on TV ads? If so, great. New ads every day. In every market. If trump has a rally in DesMoines, the candidate needs to show up a day before. That's what I mean by Rapid Reponse. Every paid employee of whoever's campaign it is needs to be confirmed and reconfirmed as someone without the sort of baggage - racist tweets, sexist video, homophobic slurs - that can derail a campaign. Yes, the campaign needs to be a 50-state campaign, but emphasis has to be on the electoral college states that can really fuck us up again. And, yes, even the red states, with messages that might appeal to them. Consistency. On track. Focus. Be ready for every insult or threat. PACs need to mock, mock, mock. Hair, height, make-up - hey male farmers, do you put on makeup when to go to work every morning?

Yes, this is standard campaign stuff, but Dems have managed to forget or get sidetracked. This is not the time for either.

Can any current candidate have a decent chance if all of this is done? Frankly, I don't think so. But I won't say who I think would fall short regardless of running a forceful campaign. But I think we need to go into the primary voting booths with the belief that "our candidate" can pull it off.

And all of this is apart from the GOTV issue, which is a problem all by itself, and one that has to have its own concerted effort in the general. We have to get beyond the my candidate or bust attitude.

Everything else is important but without that we have nothing. The problem is it's not obvious who that candidate is. It must be someone who can motivate moderates, independents, minorities of all stripes, those who didn't vote last time or voted against Hillary, republicans horrified by Trump and anyone else we can bring into the big tent. Plus the vote must be so overwhelming it will swamp the many ways the GOP and hostile foreign interests are using to steal the election. I'm optimistic but there are a lot of ways it can go wrong. We must keep our eye on the prize and not let up or be distracted.
