So the "moderates" are gonna split their vote and hand the nomination to Sanders?

I put "moderates" in quotes, because a lot of people supporting Buttigieg, Biden, Klobuchar or Bloomberg might ideally prefer a more progressive candidate but are motivated primarily by a desire to beat Trump.

But if the early primaries and current polling are any indication, these voters are going to keep fighting over who the best "moderate" candidate is, and, in so doing, they are going to hand the nomination to the LEAST moderate candidate - Sanders. Meaning that Trump will run against an avowed Democratic Socialist who supports positions that are known duds with swing voters, such as doing away with private insurance.

I feel like I'm watching a slow motion car wreck here- I can see how it plays out, and there seems to be nothing we can do to stop it.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

I think he has completely revamped the Democratic Party. If not for sanders, they’d be no college Loan talk, environment green deal, income inequality, 15 dollar minimum wage, and a lot more. Also probably not have an AOC who was the result of sanders policies. He’s been a boon for the party. Thank God he ran in 2016 or we’d be issue deprived.

As an example, Trump has had the nerve to accuse Joe Biden of nepotism even though Trump himself is the king of nepotism. Trump will pull every lowdown trick in the book including lying and cheating. And if we do not nominate the people's choice in favor of a candidate chosen by party bosses, Trump will take that all the way to the bank.

Soon, most of those moderates are going to drop out of the race. When they do, most will suggest who their supporters should switch to. Most voters who currently support a moderate candidate will continue to want to support a moderate.

After Super Tuesday's primaries, you are going to see a big change in the numbers. There are too many candidates right now, frankly. Soon, there will be fewer and things will start changing.

Don't be disheartened.

He's very well poised to suck some of the moderate wind out of Super Tuesday.

It's very ironic...

We watched this exact same kind of rolling out of a relatively unpopular populist candidate going against a field of long time party members happen in 2016 when Trump managed to steamroll everyone with a very small portion of the vote.

At this time in 2016:
12 candidates went in. Cruz won Iowa with 27.6%, Trump lost at 24.3%, Rubio had 23.1%, Carson had 9.3%. Had Cruz/Rubio not competed, today we may be living in a VERY different United States.
New Hampshire ended up going to Trump as well, but with only 35.2% Kashich/Cruz/Bush/Rubio each split up their "moderates".. had they not united against the populist candidate, they'd have had more than 50% even figuring some may have gone for trump.

What you are saying is 100% spot on a very real possibility.. and we're forming up to make the exact same huge mistake that the more historically sensible of the Republican base made in 2016..

But.. what can we do. It is what it is. Not going to say any more on my thoughts of how bad this will be if it goes down that way.. I'll just support my candidate to the best of my ability for now.. then whomever is best poised to go after Sanders until there's no more preferred candidates left. Anyone but Bernie 2020 imo.

winner take all states that give a substantial lead to the Repub frontrunner pretty fast. It's a reason why their recent primaries were over way earlier than ours.

In the Dem case, it may be likely that no candidate ends with 50% of the delegates and then it will be interesting what happens. If several moderates are in the race till the end, one of them might still end up winning and not the one who had the most delegates without a majority.

Plenty of time to take him out before the convention. Remember, Hillary got 75% of the black vote. Bernie can't win the nomination w/o the black vote. And he'll never get it.Since 1980, no one has got the nomination and lost the black vote. The media is a piece of shit. If Bernie wins NH they'll be crowning him all week and singing his glory. The guy with 30 or so delegates will be the presumptive. They want to see Brutal Capitalist Monster vs Socialist OverPromiser in the GE. It would be funny to them. So gird your loins. It will be all Sanders all the time until Nevada,

I finally read Nate Silver's reason for throwing every state to Bernie. Get this, he ranked Iowa as 2nd most important primary event after Super Tuesday. Why? Because there was a lot of media there. The media now outweighs the voters in his prediction models. It is fucking sick.

Nobody is forcing all of those so-called moderates to all be running for the same office. And any one of them is free to drop out at any time and throw support to another moderate. But if they do not, as I said, it is what it is. What we need to do is make sure that the party unites behind whoever the nominee is, whether it's a moderate or not.
