Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumPolitico: New poll shows Bloomberg eating into Biden's support among black voters
I don't post this with any great pleasure. It just seems important, as African American support has been considered Joe Biden's firewall.
The survey also shows that Bloomberg is successfully eating into Biden's popularity among black voters, a key Democratic voting bloc that had been considered the vice president's firewall should he falter in New Hampshire on Tuesday.
Monday's poll shows Biden maintains his current lead among black voters, but his support has plummeted from 49 percent before the caucuses to 27 percent. Bloomberg, meanwhile, has rocketed into second place among black voters, with 22 percent support compared to 7 percent late last month.
The poll also brings Bloomberg one step closer toward qualifying for the next Democratic primary debate, which is on Feb. 19 in Nevada. He needs to hit at least 10 percent in two more polls by Feb. 18 to qualify. So far, Biden, Buttigieg, Klobuchar, Sanders and Warren have qualified for the debate, according to POLITICO's tracking of public polling and delegate allocations.

Hard to know what to make of this. My mother's whole issue with Bloomberg has been, "He won't get one black vote."

(112,252 posts)The moment that they are reminded of "stop and frisk" Bloomberg's rating will plummet and he will fail to be viable to get delegates. However, Bloomberg will cut into Biden's support and make it more likely for the convention to go to a second or third ballot.

(24,396 posts)Its all about the trend lines. Mike is ascending, and he has the $ and the dynamite adsto keep moving up.
Right now, its a bit like different street fair operators trying to convince voters they have the best Tilt-A-Whirl. Then Bloomberg shows up like Disney and says, or, we could do THIS ride instead.

(112,252 posts)Once the voters are reminded of his stop and frisk policy his support among African Americans will plummet. Bloomberg has the money to remain in the race and he may drain support from Biden such that no candidate gets the majority of delegates in the first round of the convention, but if the numbers are relatively close then I believe that they will pick Biden over either Bernie or Bloomberg.
Most of my friends on Facebook in Austin and Dallas consider Bloomberg's candidacy to be a joke and will not vote for him.

I think a lot of African Americans might not be as aware of Bloomberg's relationship with the black community in New York City. Bloomberg is more of an east coast persona. His history regarding "stop and frisk" is not a minor issue.

Bloomberg is spending money everywhere, including polls.
He's a joke.
Any Dem who supports him , well, you have to question if they are or ever really were Dems to begin with.
Where I have lived my entire almost half century, Brooklyn , AA do not like him one bit. Now most of "woke" Brooklyn is from Iowa , I believe is how my borough president put it, and don't understand how bad Bloomberg was for minorities in NYC.

(43,415 posts)become our friend and fast, Bloomberg included. I have always maintained that Biden is not at all the surest bet, for a number of reasons. Now, I may well be proved wrong, but I certainly am not going to toss Bloomberg out with the bathwater. Go back and take a poll of my fellow blacks in 1994 or 1995 (fellow in a loose sense, as I was born in 1996) whether Biden was a friend after his years of crime billing, gang-banger talk, and drug warmongering. I was not even alive then, but know enough history to say he would not come up with a good score. Shit changes, times change. It changed for Joe with Obama, and it sure as hell can change for Mike if he is the best bet to slay the Trumpian dragon.
primary today, I would vote for: Joe Biden
Important to state what you did.
I was presuming Biden would be our nominee, but because anything can happen during an election run-up I remained undecided with the plan to involve myself when we have our nominee.
Plenty of opposition to Biden from all sorts of people, but the whole turning-Trump's-impeachment-into-an-anti-Biden-campaign seems to have done him much damage even though he doesn't deserve it. The ridiculousness of the early caucuses seems by design as well and I trust none of it including support for Sanders.
I really like Buttigieg, but worry he will be mass attacked if he were to become the nominee. We seem to be held down by deplorables and the media parroting their concerns.
Bloomberg, on the other hand, will be hard to hurt. He doesn't need donors and can fight back.
All bets are off now so buckle up!

(25,471 posts)I think, and this is just an opinion based on her statements over the past couple years, that she's had more than enough of DC from a political perspective, and all that goes with it, possibly to last a lifetime.
I agree that Bloomberg would be formidable vs. Trump. He's not my favorite, but if one's primary goal is to get rid of Trump, he's looking like perhaps the best option. I think he would appeal to moderates, independents, and perhaps more than a few Never-Trumpers. Combined with a solid VP choice, it might have big-win potential.

(21,646 posts)and sort of caught me off guard . But I wrote previously here when he chose the 2nddist /R Kelly as his Chicago campaign stop that was not ordinary either ...
https://chicago.suntimes.com/elections/2020/1/21/21075945/bobby-rush-endorses-mike-bloomberg
He tapped Bobby Rush, 1st dist IL to be a national campaign co-chair 👀
Rush told the Chicago Sun-Times he was impressed by Bloombergs approach to the economic discrimination in the black community.
Rush potentially helps Bloomberg because he is a prominent African American elected official. And Rushs congressional district historically generates a heavy Democratic vote. So much so that the district has eight presidential delegates, with delegates apportioned according to the Democratic vote turnout.
In the 18 Illinois congressional districts, the number of elected delegates range from three to eight. When Bloomberg brought his campaign to Chicago for the first time a few weeks ago, it was in the 2nd Congressional District, which is allotted seven delegates.
Bloomberg said in a statement, Rush has dedicated his life to building a more open, inclusive, equitable, just and prosperous America as a civil rights activist, pastor, and leader in Congress, where he has been a force for change on issues we both feel passionately about, including health care, gun violence, and poverty

To me he is like the wiz of oz that he has all those ads but I dont know who is the person behind the ads
