Trying to figure out how to warm up to Bloomberg in the event he gets the nomination

I won't be voting for him in the primary but I think he would be fine as President as far as bringing back normalcy, and I do think he understands something needs to be done about income inequality. He is a philanthropist so he isn't so clingy to his money that he will try to use the Presidency to enrich himself. I think he may be the strongest candidate to put up against Trump unless he ends up being seen as just another rich guy who will only look out for the wealthy. That is where I believe Sanders has the advantage with regular folks.

These are the areas he has focused his philanthropy:

Environment, Public Health, the Arts, Government Innovation, Education, Women's Economic Development in Africa, science.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bloomberg_Philanthropies

I don't know what the hell he was thinking with Stop and Frisk though??? That concerns me.

All in all I think he would be fine and I think it would bug the CRAP out of Trump running against someone who has 20 times his wealth and Bloomberg is self made. He could make fun of trump for being just another cocky under achieving trust fund baby.

I think Klobuchar is the darkhorse to watch right now and I think she would be stronger than Buttigieg against Trump. She had an extremely strong debate performance and she does her homework for the debates. Knows her stuff.

I still have a bit of hope for Elizabeth but her traction just hasn't been there as of yet so I am looking around.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

He's not on my list of favorites, but I don't think he's what the conventional wisdom here seems to think he is, either.

I'm not sure why people think he's some kind of conservative, because his record and his stances on the issues place him pretty firmly on the left side of the fence. I think people get hung up on the rich white guy thing and the fact that he was a Republican for a while and don't really look into what his positions are and have been.

I had a similar thought earlier about the candidates. It's human nature to fixate on the things with which we disagree, and we can find them with any candidate if we try hard enough. That's when a big picture perspective can be helpful.

As you noted, Bloomberg has some doozys, but they seem more like exceptions than the norm where his overall record is concerned. Of course, any one issue can be a deal-breaker for anyone, which is understandable.

Bernie Sanders talks about doing something about climate change, but WHAT has he done personally? Bloomberg has personally paid $4.5 million dollars for the last three years to keep the US current in the Paris Climate Agreement. He has ALLOCATED $500 million dollars to a project to transition the world to 100% clean energy by 2030ish. What has Bernie done? Has Bernie given say $50,000 of his own to a clean energy effort? I seriously doubt it. Yet, there are those that consider Bernie far more serious about climate change reversal than Bloomberg, that is just a fucking stupid conclusion, the personal committment of Bloomberg is simply far greater.

Has Bernie personally given $16,564 directly to combatting climate change? Some of his supporters will say that he does lifestyle stuff, what progressive DOESN'T do the exact same? Democrats pick their nominees from the bottom up. Bloomberg is trying to buy the nomination from going from the top down. He isnt building a base of support, he is trying to buy it. Sanders is the only one who has a hardcore base of loyal support. He would have beaten trump in 2016 and he will beat him in 2020.

Maybe it’s time to win one the same way, except with a much better message and goals.

Yeah, I don’t like it either, but it’s better than getting slaughtered running Sanders or Warren. I have about 40 days to decide/reconsider.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

1. Great work with voter mobilization in Virginia last year, he's put in some bona fides.
2. Best trash-talker since Obama.
3. He might have personal attack teflon. This is a personal impression, but his wealth (murica loves her rich white guys in suits, ask my senator-until-I-move-to-Texas-on-Friday Rick Scott), shifting party affiliation, and quasi-celebrity status would make it hard to get a firm wrestling grasp on him.
4. Again, the celebrity thing. My presidential preference list started with Obama, Springsteen, Hanks, Winfrey, Bon Jovi, Ford, Grohl. People don't want experienced politicians for high elected office. Bloomberg is a household name beyond his political office-holding.

I think time will tell, especially with the next few weeks when he enters the fray. I'm looking to see him signal he's with the center of the party (not the same as the "centrist" center of the electorate) on what I call "economic predation issues" (as well as seeing if anyone else catches fire first). In other words, how much can preogressives push him to become his better self? Seems to have worked for the GOP on their end with Trump.

But I remember they aren't Trump and I know I can cope with no toe tingling.

Bush. Of course if he gets the nomination I will have to vote for him but I would do so holding my nose.

I am voting today. My choice may become the nominee. Or not. But I don’t need to warm up to whoever becomes the candidate. And nor should anyone here. Vote blue no matter who.

Joe Biden
