Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumMike Bloomberg Is Doing Interesting Things for Supporters
If you go to the candidate's campaign website, you can download a ton of graphic images to use however you wish. You don't even have to sign up to access the download page. This morning, my wife, who has become a Bloomberg supporter, flashed her iPhone at me jokingly. "See!" she said:
She had changed the lock screen on her iPhone to look like this from the Bloomberg site. Since I work in marketing, specifically Neuromarketing, I was impressed. Anyone who downloads a lock screen graphic has made a commitment. If you put this image on your cell phone, you're going to be remnded frequently that you support Bloomberg. You can also do as my wife did, and show your support by flashing your phone's screen at other people. The simplicity of the graphic and the repetition of the historically-based campaign slogan also reinforce the message.
Bloomberg has hired some very good people to work with his campaign:

(146,318 posts)campaign people to produce his marketing collateral. His TV ads are all top-drawer, and he has produced dozens of them, which will avoid ad overload by viewers. His social media team is made up of top professionals, rather than volunteers, as well. The attention to detail, production values and market penetration and targeting is way above most of the candidates' efforts.
His field people, too are pros, mostly recruited from media companies.
He's going to make a major impact on this primary race. Instead of scrambling around the four early states, none of which have many delegates to offer, he has focused, well in advance, on the crucial Super Tuesday states. When the other candidates are finally ready to make media buys in states like Minnesota, they're going to discover that Bloomberg has already been in the market for a couple of months and has locked up time in the high-value broadcast network news hours.
Bloomberg is running a very, very smart campaign. What that will mean, in the end, is yet to be seen. But, the other campaigns are going to be in for a shock when they finally notice that time is running out for the Super Tuesday primaries. Early voting has already begun in many of those states.
He's spending his own money, and spending it where it will count.

(4,268 posts)that the Democratic Party needed an almost full time media company to structure/convey their message. They are absolutely poor at it. I don't know if the Dems "circulate" daily/weekly talking points like the russiapublicans do, but they probably should because repeating something over and over becomes a talking point and even if it's a complete lie, the "truth".
Silly as this may sound right now we need memes to use online. Graphics with facts to post online. I see some from "Occupy Democrats", but it's not enough and frankly I'm not a fan of having their logo on these graphics because they are perceived as biased. These are just some examples: We need facts about the economy, jobs created (Obama vs dump), Dumps treatment of vets, immigrants, child separations at border, dangers of his foreign policies etc etc etc.
Russiapublicans shamelessly lie on every media platform. They own radio, and I believe they dominate tv(because they have faux news and have effectively intimidated an already very poor press who gives a voice to HORRIBLE right wingers like santorum, Hewitt, Kingston, Dershowitz).
As Democrats we need to be more active online, but we need the tools. Good for Bloomberg to be running a modern campaign. I hope if he's not the nominee, he coordinates and provides his resources to the eventual nominee.

Rhyming, monosyllabic slogans are the most memorable for most people. It was a brilliant slogan, and a brilliant ad:

(47,517 posts)that we've reached a point in history, that the only way to defeat one billionaire is to let another one buy the presidency. It feels like our democracy is becoming an oligarchy. And are we setting a precedent for future elections? We already have too much money in politics, this is too in-your-face.

(146,318 posts)In Minnesota, which votes three weeks from today (early voting already going on), and not one of the other candidates is doing any advertising here. Bloomberg's many ads have been running here for a couple of months.
There are going to be some huge shocks coming up on Super Tuesday. While the rest of the pack is bickering among themselves, Bloomberg is visible all the time, telling voters that he will beat Trump and fix things. The rest of the candidates haven't even started thinking about Super Tuesday. They're wasting their time on states who have only a few delegates to offer.
Why? Because, in the old days, Iowa and New Hampshire mattered. 2020 isn't the old days. Bloomberg just ignored Iowa and New Hampshire. Smart move. He's out of the nastiness that's going on there. Completely. He's looking rational and sane and like a winner to a lot of people.

(47,517 posts)with advertising is buying the presidency to me. It certainly gives Bloomberg an unfair advantage, especially being most people don't pay as much attention to politics as we do.
I agree that he has been very smart about all this, but the money sure did help.

(146,318 posts)It is, however, not an unfair advantage. It is just an advantage. Advertising, particularly television advertising is an essential part of any presidential campaign. Most candidates do it relatively poorly. Their ads are too few, and cause boredom with viewers. They're not produced by top talents in the ad industry. Those folks know what works and doesn't work, but they're really expensive.
Bloomberg has hired those people to produce dozens of ads and has bought ample time in the most effective times of day for campaign advertising. Some candidates go for the cheapest times for their ads to air, to save money. Voters watch television news on broadcast network affiliates. That time is recognized as the most effective for most consumer advertising, because people are in front of their TVs. So, Bloomberg ads appear half a dozen times during those prime time slots. Morning, dinner hour, and late evening news hours.
He gets better reach with his ads, targets the demographic groups who are most likely to vote, and changes up his excellent ads to prevent boredom. That costs money. Lots of it. So that's what he's doing.
He hires the best people he can find, pays them premium salaries or rates, and gets their best work. That's what it will take to defeat Donald Trump, quite frankly.

(47,517 posts)is Joe has some extraordinary political ads, but not enough money to flood the airways with them. He seems to have some amazing talent in that regard.
We are back to an age old problem that has only gotten worse since the Citizen United ruling, too much money in politics.

(33,356 posts)Every Republican is inextricably tied to Trump, so when people see those ads, they get reminded of why they should not vote Republican. The cultists will not turn but they are only about 1/3 of voters. People who were suckered in 2016 and people who were not motivated in 2016 or 2018 will get the message.
Holding the House and taking the Senate can be accomplished by the coattails of a good motivating Presidential candidate.

If the future shows he's not going to make the grade I have no problem moving over to Mike simply because I do not seeany of the other candidates winning against trump in November.
