Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumIf Bloomberg wins the nomination, it's good to know everyone here will vote for him.
And I believe the great majority of DUers will work hard during the general campaign doing what they can to help him win.

(11,605 posts)But I can't see myself being motivated to volunteer. But IDK if he will even need volunteers. So far it seems he has paid staff doing everything, which is not such a bad thing. I like volunteering but I think people who work on campaigns for more than a few hours on a weekend day should be paid, and if he has all the GOTV covered with paid staff it frees up the base to volunteer downballot. Especially for state legislative races - they are especially important this year because of redistricting.

If. Big if.
He needs to stand up for himself at some debates. Let us know his views, plans and how is he going to explain his long history of racism, misogyny and , I guess control freak, tyranny whatever you want to call it.
NO reason for him to be our candidate.
None at all.
There are at least 5 good reasons he should NOT be , considering all of his baggage.

(713 posts)I would vote for Bloomberg if he got the nomination. Right now I am leaning towards Amy Klobucher. I don't know why, but something rubs me the wrong way about Mayor Pete. I do not think that he is experienced enough. Still, I would vote for Pete if he got the nomination. I also think Biden has had his chance. It is time for someone who is experienced and yet new to national politics. Amy seems to fit the bill. She is smart, funny, and tough.

Bloomberg wont inspire young voters to show up, and despite polls showing him second only to Biden in AA support, I cant imagine turnout from POC would increase with Bloomberg as the Nominee.

And as far as inspired goes, you dont have to be inspired. You just have to be angry enough at Trump to vote him out.
And if you are not, then thats on you.

(31,011 posts)One of the things that I do like about Bloomberg, is that he's not asking for money from people. He's asking for votes. He actually earned his money, unlike that pathetic daddy's boy who gets bailed out at every turn.
I like that Bloomberg is financing his own campaign. That's something he could rub in tRump's face. I do like that Bloomberg is far more successful and has more money than tRump. Oh, here are my taxes, Bloomberg says. My medical records and all that. Bloomberg could demoralize tRump in more ways than just about any other candidate. That makes me laugh my ass off when I think about it.
I do get why many are turned off by Bloomberg's money. It is troubling, but at the same time, I find myself being gleeful when I think about it, too.

(18,678 posts)I will feel the loss of the hope built up under Obama faded in a mere 4 years.
I will be saddened that the party who gave us Carter, Clinton and Obama has to turn to a Bush supporter to bear their name.
I will be disappointed that after all of the fine speeches about getting big money out of politics, youth, diversity and equality the party has nominated a billionaire, septuagenarian white male who stated how minorities have to be thrown to the wall and frisked.
I will vote against Trump, but I will know I am voting for a very different "Democrat"

I am disheartened to see so many, whom I would think the most concerned for equality under the law, for civil rights, rush to a man who turned entire neighborhoods into a police state.
Fear of one evil can lead to the embrace of another. History should teach us that.
It is way, way too early to make this bad bargain.

(401 posts)People's lives are at stake. No one's life is any more at stake then previously.
People have been killing people since there were more than two people.
Nobody is taking your guns away. Have you seen the gun laws being proposed in Virginia? Have you seen the 'lack of due process' Red Flag laws being enacted?
You're saying, "It's worth having brown children dying in camps if I don't have to deal with pesky gun regulations." I hate the idea of brown children dying in cages ... no normal human being can support that. Congress and the governors need to unite to denounce and de-fund this program. I TOTALLY hope Trump is turned into a one-term president but I won't vote for a former Republican who want to disarm the population while allowing wealthy and connected allies to have permits.
Certainly we can do better ............

All it would take is limitless funds and a lot of pretty commercials saying what people want to hear. It won't matter what was said or done in the past, and no real assurances that it all isn't a lie. No accounting for prior support of authoritarian police practices or racist comments.
Our party and democracy will have been bought.
I desperately hope it doesn't come to that.
