Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumIf your candidate bows out
Who is your backup? I'm with Warren but if her numbers don't climb she won't make it through to the end. My next option? Idk, cautiously leaning towards Biden but I'm watching Bloomberg. I want the person who will beat Trump in the end, even if I have to give up a few things I wanted in a candidate.
So, state your backup and why. Keep it civil.

I wouldn't mind supporting her but I'm worried that NH was her last hurrah.

(2,706 posts)Paris Climate Accord: Klobuchar has stated that she would have the U.S. rejoin the Paris Climate Accord. Source In November 2018, Klobuchar was one of 25 Democratic senators to cosponsor a resolution in response to findings of the Intergovernmental Panel On Climate Change report and National Climate Assessment. The resolution affirmed the senators acceptance of the findings and their support for bold action to address climate change. Source
Green New Deal: I think they are aspirations. I think we can get close. I dont think we are going to get rid of entire industries in the US. This is put out there, as an aspiration, in that its something that we need to move toward. Do I think we could cross every t and dot every i in 10 years? Actually, I think that would be very difficult to do. Source
New Energy: We must commit ourselves to protecting our environment and preserving our natural resources for generations to come. We also need to chart a new energy future one that creates jobs, reduces our dependence on foreign oil, increases domestic energy production, keeps energy costs affordable for all Americans, and responds to the challenges of global climate change. Source
Climate Legislation: Klobuchar was a lead sponsor of Americas Water Infrastructure Act of 2018, an Act to provide for improvements to the rivers and harbors of the United States, to provide for the conservation and development of water and related resources, to provide for water pollution control activities, and for other purposes. Source
Carbon Reduction: In December 2014, Klobuchar was one of six Democratic senators to sign a letter to the Environmental Protection Agency urging the agency to give states more time to comply with its rule on power plants as the final rule must provide adequate time for the design, permitting and construction of such large scale capital intensive infrastructure and calling for an elimination of the 2020 targets in the final rule, a mandate that states take action by 2020 as part of the EPAs goal to reach a 30 percent carbon cut by 2030. Source
Environmental Record: Klobuchar has a 95% rating from the League of Conservation Voters, based on her voting record. Source

(29,676 posts)But she did mention environmental issues in her speech to us,mostly about how you can protect the environment and create good union jobs simultaneously. (It was a union convention.) It was a good way to bridge that gap for the average worker afraid of lowering wages and taught to fear that protections=job loss.

(320 posts)Elizabeth's campaign is waning. Bernie has better than a 50% chance of getting the nod. I am very worried about that because Trump will attack him viciously AND, it is my sense that too many people are worried when Socialist is in the name...."Democratic Socialist" does not seem to work. I could be wrong and I hope I am. In general, I like his policies.

(15,224 posts)I was actually leaning toward Biden, but I've cooled toward him a bit now. I like all of the others sans Bernie.
But if Bernie is the nominee, I'll vote for him.
It's going to be hard for me to finally make up my mind and put a checkmark next to a name before our March primary, but I will definitely figure it out and be there to vote!

Maybe my liking someone is the kiss of death for their campaign. If it werent, maybe Kamala and Cory would still be in it! 🤷🏼?♀️ So I wont curse Pete or Elizabeth or Amy or anyone else by declaring for them. 🙈🙉🙊

(320 posts)Pete Buttigieg, I believe, would make the very best President. There is something to what some say that he was born for this.
Bloomberg is making a play and I LOVE what he is doing to Trump. Some feel he is too old (78). Fine. Bloomberg/Buttigieg. It will make a hell of a campaign button.

Bloomberg is the only one at this point pounding away the real enemy, so I hope he's in for the long haul. Bernie simply can't shed the socialist thing, and that will do him in.

(628 posts)If Pete drops out I want to say Sanders but I wont lie. All the Sanders bashing about he cant beat Trump is working on me. Im seconding guessing myself. Same thing I did in 2016. Listen to the scare tactics that Bernie cant win and watched Hillary go down.
If I dont vote for Sanders than Bloomberg cause I do not think Biden would have any chance of beating Trump. I dont think Warren can either. Not sure on Amy yet but my guess is if Petes out so is Amy.
I vote in PA so I have some time. Sanders is my heart choice - Bloomberg is my head.

Luckily thats all academic as Joe will almost certainly still be in on Super Tuesday when my state votes, so I wont have to make the hard choice.

(3,427 posts)if she drops out and Amy Klobuchar is doing well, I'd switch to her. I'm not wild about gazillionaires buying the election, but my next choice would probably be Bloomberg. We need to win. I'd like to see him in at least one debate first, though.
primary today, I would vote for: Joe Biden
If Sanders dropped out I would support Warren if she is still in, if not I would show up to GE and hold my nose for whoever is left to go against Trump, but other than those 2 I can't say I honestly would be enthusiastic about any of the options other than those 2.

(12,165 posts)Unless Klobuchar has enough forward momentum to carry her over the finish line, I'll throw my support behind Bloomberg. I switched from Warren to Buttigieg after Iowa.
Bloomberg is earning his support by using his money to relentlessly attack Trump. Bloomberg could attack fellow democrats, but he is not. I see more mud-slinging at one another by the other candidates who have been running against one another for months. It's off-putting.
Plus, Bloomberg is the only candidate who is paying to advertise in Georgia. He is in the race for the long haul.
