Remember all the talking points about how it's only white people who like Bernie???

(24,123 posts)leading to the defeat of tRumpy The Clown and, because of that, Biden would not come close to taking the nomination away from Bernie, whose time has come... he's the aggressive progressive leader We The People have been waiting for!!

(5,376 posts)I am waiting for the results from the racially diverse Nevada Caucus in 8 days.
That should provide the final nail in the coffin of the "Bernie has no minority support" meme.
Warren is polling in 3rd place in that. So I have my fingers crossed for my candidate too.

(10,500 posts)Maybe it will be different this time, but that is how it was back then.
So the media should stop with this silly narrative about how HRC was the wrong candidate to run in 2016 in order to turn out the minority vote. The whole reason she beat Sanders is because she destroyed him among minority voters.

(4,959 posts)He was getting from 15 to 30% of Black voters in most states when it was pretty much just down to him and Clinton. Much higher with younger black voters when it was broken down by race. With the Hispanic population he did even better.
Quick google didn't help me find a clear answer - these numbers are from my recollection, but this link sheds some light:

(10,500 posts)Hillary was a strong candidate among minority voters and they delivered the nomination to her. The media should stop pretending that there is any evidence that she was below average when it came to turning out the minority vote.
The fact that Sanders overwhelmingly lost the minority vote, and is now doing respectably, is just more proof that she had a well-earned advantage with these groups which got her such a large portion of their vote share.

(4,959 posts)You are the first person on this thread to mention Clinton. And she's not running this time.
If there is a media narrative going on right now about her minority support in 2016 I haven't seen it, but I'm not sure how it is relevant to this thread in any case (aside from the fact that she was Sanders main opponent in 2016).

Bernie is doing very well with minority voters.
It's time to accept that.

I am hijacking the thread to point out the this further proves that the media narrative about the minority vote turnout in the 2016 GE is a lie. The 2016 election was all about a bogus FBI investigation, and James Comey's shenanigans, which were designed to destroy the Democratic candidate.
And I am not going to stop living in the past, because we have Gorsuch and Kavanaugh in the present. We need to demonstrate that the election which gave us them was illegitimate and therefore it is OK to reform the court. We should not accept the assault on liberal democracy that is coming from a right-wing court as the GOP moves us further and further down the road to fascism.

(4,959 posts)I was thinking about that the other day (maybe the night of Sanders's rally in Durham, NH?). I was barely a teenager in 1988 but I remember seeing stuff about it on the news and in the papers and thinking I wanted to be part of it. Sorta my first political memory (aside from when I was 10 years old and Reagan was using Springsteen's Born in the USA on the campaign trail and even I knew that was fucked up, lol).
Didn't realize his ceiling with white people was 10%! I suppose we have come a long way since then.

(22,917 posts)MSNBC goes into contortions trying to avoid talking about this at virtually any cost. Every once in a while, when they have to talk about what has happened to Biden, the theme of People of Color votes comes up, and they race immediately to all of the support Bloomberg is getting from Black voters despite controversies from his past, and THEN, when they can't avoid talking about the problems Bloomberg has with Blacks, the discussion turns to what Bloomberg can do to repair his standing with People of Color. They simply do NOT want to discuss how Sanders in increasingly winning the support of minority voters.
