(146,325 posts)I think you might mean "plurality." If nobody has a majority on the first ballot, there will be additional ballots voted on. In the end, the nominee will be the candidate who gets a majority of delegate votes on whichever is the last ballot. No rigging. It's how the system works. Any candidate with less than 15% of delegates will not be on the next ballot. Eventually, a majority will exist.

(146,325 posts)The procedures are all laid out in the rules. After the first ballot, the superdelegates will vote, and candidates who are not viable will recommend that their delegates vote for someone else. Most of those delegates will do as the candidate they're pledged to requests, but they're not required to.
If it goes beyond a second ballot, there might well be discussions between the leaders and candidates who have no real chance of winning to try to get endorsements and recommendations. It's possible that some of those discussions might be about cabinet positions or even a VP nomination. But, all that's within the rules and no delegate can be forced to vote for anyone in later ballots.
No rigging. Just a process. Of course, that's based on my understanding of the rules, which are not completely set yet. There will be a vote on adoption of the final rules.

(146,325 posts)In fact, just before the convention, it's almost certain that the word "rigged" will be used by at least one candidate. I'm interested to see if it gets used by a candidate well ahead of the convention.
