Bloomberg Campaign Claims It Has 'Very Damaging' Info On Sanders

Heard about this on one of the network evening news shows (can't remember which one since I was channel surfing as usual), and just found a link to an article:

https://www.ibtimes.com/bloomberg-campaign-claims-it-has-very-damaging-info-sanders-2924418

As the Democratic primary race continues to heat up, billionaire Michael Bloomberg and Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., have not shied away from sharing barbs. With Bloomberg now polling third nationally, he is putting the front runner, Sanders, in his cross hairs.

Kevin Sheekey, the head of Bloomberg’s campaign, claimed Tuesday morning that opposition research conducted on Sanders had turned up “very damaging, perhaps even disqualifying” information, though he stopped short of sharing the findings.

-snip-

If such information exists (and there's a lot we don't know about what Sanders has said during past campaigns, for instance), then it's best for the Democratic Party that it come out as soon as possible.
If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

When you can buy an office, you don't need to follow the election laws; you just change them to give you an extra term.

Let's drop the myth that Bloomberg is motivated to run by a desire to defeat Trump. If that was his motivation, he could have supported existing candidates with donations and/or anti Trump ads.

So what is his reason for being a candidate himself?

Also, Bloomberg has nothing to lose. Many Sanders supporters won't vote for any nominee if it is not Bernie anyway.

sanders is a very weak candidate and would be easy for trump to destroy. In addition to the well written 101 page memorandum with oppo on sanders with a 1000 pages of backup from the Clinton campaign trump has his own oppo file on sanders that would destroy such a weak and divisive candidate like sanders.

trump had a two foot thick book of oppo research on Sanders http://www.newsweek.com/myths-cost-democrats-presidential-election-521044

They ignored the fact that Sanders had not yet faced a real campaign against him. Clinton was in the delicate position of dealing with a large portion of voters who treated Sanders more like the Messiah than just another candidate. She was playing the long game—attacking Sanders strongly enough to win, but gently enough to avoid alienating his supporters. Given her overwhelming support from communities of color—for example, about 70 percent of African-American voters cast their ballot for her—Clinton had a firewall that would be difficult for Sanders to breach....

So what would have happened when Sanders hit a real opponent, someone who did not care about alienating the young college voters in his base? I have seen the opposition book assembled by Republicans for Sanders, and it was brutal. The Republicans would have torn him apart. And while Sanders supporters might delude themselves into believing that they could have defended him against all of this, there is a name for politicians who play defense all the time: losers....

The Republicans had at least four other damning Sanders videos (I don’t know what they showed), and the opposition research folder was almost 2-feet thick. (The section calling him a communist with connections to Castro alone would have cost him Florida.) In other words, the belief that Sanders would have walked into the White House based on polls taken before anyone really attacked him is a delusion built on a scaffolding of political ignorance.

sanders was such a weak primary candidate that the Clinton campaign did not use its oppo but trump would have fun destroying such a weak candidate like sanders

I look forward to seeing the additional oppo

Sanders is NOT a Democrat and should NOT have the nomination or else Trump will definitely have another 4 years and our country is done.

I am becoming more and more convinced of this each day and mostly it is being confirmed by just watching Sanders himself and seeing how he conducts himself, along with his Campaign Staff and his "Bernie Bros"....

He isn't qualified and the info on him alone that exists in the oppo files above proves that. But if Bloomberg found more that will show the electorate that he isn't qualified, then I for one hope it comes out soon because I am getting tired of Bernie Sanders and his whining and all his crazed supporters who are constantly attacking and splitting the Democratic Party.

Bernie Sanders' votes on bills like the Brady Bill allowed guns to pass through lax states and end up on the streets of big cities, guns by the hundreds, even thousands. Those guns caused chaos in some neighborhoods in those big cities, often resulting in innocent children getting killed by crossfire. I am not excusing Bloomberg for stop and frisk, but I can see why he may have felt such a blunt force would work, people that have illegal guns, sourced from Trans-state gun runners were not going to turn them in or participate in a buyback program (although police agencies have gotten somewhat smarter on buy backs, buying the guns turned in without questions).

I blame Bernie for voting against the Brady Bill five times. One of the things that the Brady Bill would have done was interdict gunrunners that were running guns to big cities like NYC, Philly, Newark, Boston, ect. Bloomberg had a big problem that Bernie directly helped create. Once the guns were on the streets of NYC and other big cities, there were not many easy ways of getting them off those streets.

Tue Feb 18, 2020, 11:04 PM

That provision would have allowed law enforcement to interdict a person carrying multiple guns that they couldn't prove ownership of.

Congressman Charles Schumer initially introduced the bill, but had to pull it because of opposition from Sanders, some other Dems and republican Congresspeople. Schumer reintroduced a watered-down bill that passed the House with more democratic votes, and then the Senate, that bill did not have the tough interdiction provision in it. Bernie helped get the interdiction provision removed, thereby making it possible for guns to still make their way to big cities, as long as the gunrunners were not stopped by police in states that had tough gun laws.

Bloomberg has a media empire. He knows where the bodies are buried. When it comes out, whatever it is, it will be extremely well-corroborated with documentary (and possibly video) evidence.

Usually these things wind up being much ado about nothing.

The whole thing with Fidel Castro came up during a debate with Hillary. It was pretty much a nothing-burger at the time. I think he got vetted about the stuff with the Sandinistas, too.

That's not to say the repubs won't try to make hay out of it if Bernie is the nominee.

But if that's the best they've got, it'll be nothing more than a fart in the wind.

Peter Daou (born April 25, 1965) is a Lebanese-American political strategist, activist, and author who has advised major political figures, including Hillary Clinton and John Kerry.[1][2] He was described by The New York Times as "one of the most prominent political bloggers in the nation." The Washington Post said that his early work in digital politics helped innovate "a whole new way of campaigning."[3][4][5]

now is the right time to do it. We can observe how the information may or may not change polling. It’s amazing how scared Bernie is of Bloomberg, has been talking about him non-stop. Just keep in mind that not only trump’s justice dept is against, history is against us too. Defeating a president during record low unemployment, rising wages, record stock market, etc. is going to be near impossible but with Bloomberg’s financial war chest, maybe. Defeating trump even if we essentially need to buy the election is still worth it. I will always vote dem but I’ll be the first one to admit that the last 3 years were the best years of my life for me and my family financially.
