That would be a woman of color who is on the left end of the democratic spectrum.

(90,364 posts)... socially 100% opposite of Trump.
We can't beat Trump with Bloomberg who has no swing state appeal (national polls mean nothing, that's M$M horse race crap) and who has said and done recently some overtly racist shit.

(31,261 posts)To pass judgement in today on the ethos of two plus decades ago is the zenith of insanity, IMO.
Today? I may be wrong, but I believe that the most high profile person in Bloomberg news is a woman. Times change and people change with them.

I have heard guys describe their teen daughters urges before. Yes, it is cringeworthy, but not as unusual as you claim. Typically, they were looking at their own teen years and projecting that their daughters were not different and had different urges.

(31,261 posts)Men especially project their sexual drives at that age on their daughters. Somehow, their sons escape the same treatment.

(7,947 posts)But even if it's true, that there's no incest taboo, I think we can still expect grown men to keep these quite damaging (at least if spoken) sentiments to themselves. Men like Trump and Bloomberg who brag about it are beneath contempt.

(31,261 posts)They just viewed their daughters as overly sexual creatures that would give in to the first sweet talker. I just think they were projecting how they acted at that age onto their daughters (wanting to have sex with any opposite sex person that interested them) - they couldn't imagine that maybe their daughters were gay, and frankly at that time neither could I (people grow and see more of the real world, at least I did).

(31,261 posts)I am one and I heard guys talk about their teen daughters urges. I believe now that they were projecting their own urges at that age, but no one said "hey, that is wrong".

(15,320 posts)And always will be. But, even back in the 90s most people would be creeped out, regardless of what some men talk about in private groups. What you heard amongst your friends doesn't project to everyone else. And, Bloomie has been exposed and isn't looking too good anymore. Looks like you've been proved wrong.

(31,261 posts)Things began to change with Hillary in the White House as First Lady. I think that then men heard the first real opinion from a female on how women felt about being sexualized. Laura Bush, to her credit, followed up some on what Hillary had trail-blazed.
I am not saying that what I heard was right (although I said nothing in protest), I am just saying that Bloomberg's conduct in that area was not as unusual as some here want to make it.
You didn't answer my first question. Are you a man? I am a man who recounted stuff that I was witness to.

(15,320 posts)Just refuting the claim it was ever openly accepted as the norm. And I didn't answer your question because it's irrelevant. Your anecdotal personal encounters, whatever your gender, don't change the fact that it wasn't a broad and openly accepted norm in the 90s for fathers to blatantly and openly sexualize their daughters in the manner that Trump and Bloomberg did and do.

(31,261 posts)I heard the stuff that I heard among small groups of men, some who had daughters and talked about that type of stuff. Maybe they were trying to shock me, I don't know.
Your gender does matter because if you are a woman, you likely didn't hear such things.

(8,144 posts)Bloomberg over the years talk about women? Not on one occasion. On several. And what has been his conduct towards them? These are just a few of the questions people will be asking about our candidate now that hes really joined the race.

(31,261 posts)But he projected what he would have done at that age onto her. I have seen lots of men do that, so him doing it isn't earth shattering, IMO. But yeah, if you are a business person traveling with a teenager, you better have a plan for keeping them busy doing the right things.

I remember going to Europe on a church trip and all the other teens wanted to party and make out (you know, like at home), and I was always trying to get up a fun group to go to the museum. I fear that perhaps I wasn't the life of the party.
