(52,166 posts)Did she not support more Trump judges than every single, solitary senator who ran (Booker, Harris, Bennett, Gillibrand, Sanders, and Warren)? Did she not vote for the ICE director who instituted those policies and who was opposed by every single, solitary senator who ran? Is any of that untrue?

(43,499 posts)and why do you keep bringing this bogus projection of sexism into of a simple critique of temperament
Pete caught her in a flat out falsehood
she walked right into it
Klobuchar completely flipped her percentage of voting for Trump judges and tried to say PETE lied. She DID vote to approve 2/3rds of the Trump judges, she did, not, as she claimed oppose 2/3rds
She claimed
Link to tweet
After Buttigieg criticized Klobuchar for voting to confirm too many Trump judges, Klobuchar tersely responded, "I have opposed, not supported, two-thirds of the Trump judges, so get your numbers right."
but Pete was right
she was wrong
Amy Klobuchar Keeps Voting for Trumps Horrific Judges
In the most recent congressional session, Klobuchar voted to confirm nearly two-thirds of President Trumps judicial nominees.

point to Pete
Post debate she claimed that PETE has been targeting her in the past several debates. Pure tosh, She has been going after him for weeks/months, a bit like Gabbard targeted Harris over and over, and Harris herself went after Biden. I do not think she has the temperament necessary for the Oval Office. If mild Pete makes your anger flash (and flash after SHE started it up all again, the same as she has done in the past few debates) to the point that so many people on here (and not at all just limited to us Pete folk) plus many of the presenters on the post debate shows, then what about the looming 8000 pound gorilla of Trump, who is the dirtiest, lying, cheap-shotting scumbag bully in POTUS history? There is zero sexism involved in that positing. I would say the exact same thing of any male candidate who exhibits similar traits.

Losing one's cool is a non gender specific term, applied to both men and women all the time, unlike YOUR 'smarmy'.

(11,991 posts)If anything, the word makes me think of others like smug and condescending, which are also not gendered insults, but I think, if anything, are more often applied to men than women, probably because men probably are these things more often than women are. And even recently here, I've seen Buttigieg and Bloomberg referred to as smarmy. Do you have any reference to support it being "almost always applied to women"? Maybe you just happen to have personally run into it that way an unusual number of times...?

(43,499 posts)in my experience, but I will give the point that it is not the most direct of things.
I absolutely do, however, stand by my premiss that came from my original reply to the other poster, that being it is tosh that any critique I made of Klobuchar's temperament was sexist in the slightest. she has a long history of intemperance, especially when it comes to dealing with subordinates. She would make a far better (by a million fold) president than the orange bloat, and I would support her over Sanders and Bloomberg, and Gabbard, but that is it, of the people left, and there where others I would have supported over her as well, who have now dropped out of contention. Harris, for instance.

Deflecting bad choices by saying someone else didn't have to make those same choices doesn't make the bad choices better.
That defense wasn't a good look in 2008, and it's not a great look now.

(52,166 posts)She lied about the cartoon comment, it was just flat out 180 degree off what he clearly meant and she damn well knows it. And here tonight, she lied about her own record. If she didn't want to have to deal with voting for Trump's judges she shouldn't have done it. If he didn't want to deal with having voted to make English the official language she shouldn't have done it, and if she didn't want to deal with having voted for the border commisioner she shouldn't have done that. And she should have answered the moderator's question about her ignorance of Mexico honestly too.

Many judiciary offices stayed vacant because the turtle would not consider any proposed by the Obama administration. You cannot punish the whole country by keeping these offices empty.
Same with Mexico. Looking at the gotcha question of who is the president as opposed to passing the new trade agreement.
Mayor Pete, sadly, is not ready yet for prime time.

(52,166 posts)every last damn one of them, voted for fewer of those nominations than she did. Even Bennett who is the most moderate of the bunch voted for fewer than she did. And, yes we Goddamn well can and should keep them empty before putting on anti gay judges. I bet if instead of the Family Research Council it was the Conservative Citiezens council which endorsed that judge you wouldn't be saying go ahead and confirm. Both Franken and Smith who represent her state voted for fewer than she did (by percent not number). It wasn't a gotcha question. First, she should know his name but that isn't actually the questioners problem it was her utter ignorance of any policy demonstrated in that interview.

It was silly for Pete to press her on that, but I feel her reaction to it was even sillier because came off condescending.

(51,697 posts)Her forgetting Obrador's name (if she ever knew it) is not similar to Obama accidentally saying "57" instead of "50." She is on the Senate Subcommittee on Border Security and Immigration and she doesn't have Obrador's name on the tip of her tongue? That suggests she isn't paying attention, implying she does not care. Pete was right to press her. And it showed she really did not know Obrador's name, it was not a question of forgetting or misspeaking. Misspeaking would be if she said something like that his name was Labrador instead of Obrador.
As CNN pointed out, in naming Bloomberg and her the two debate losers of tonight:
https://www.cnn.com/2020/02/19/politics/who-won-democratic-debate/index.html
What was amazing is she still had to check her notes before saying Obrador's name, and even then, she mangled its pronunciation. It was cringy.
Making matters worse for her, her voice quivers when she speaks. I don't know if it's nervousness or what, but her voice tends to sound like she's on the verge of crying. She just does not come off as poised and confident. Warren does not have that problem, and Warren won the debate tonight.

(173 posts)have to agree with Amy when she said Pete memorized talking points., he is a very smart, but needs to cement his views more. Think he will be a force to reckon with, just not sure this is his time. Guess once someone becomes older, no longer on an employer HC plan with an out of pocket maximum of 11k per year, 8k+ premiums and drawing down from retirement savings for 10 years. Thankfully had savings, I realize not everyone can do so. There is no reason in my mind that we cannot have a NHC plan paid by taxes in some form, that frees so many people from being tied to a job, a spouse, venturing out on their own etc. not to mention medical bankruptcies and death. A strong nation needs a healthy society to compete in the world.

(14,565 posts)I support Amy and Bloomberg but they were both terrible. It doesn't change how they would fare in a general election but they were both terrible. Likewise Elizabeth Warren was excellent but it doesn't change how she would fare. Too many people love to overreact and proclaim voters stampeding away or rallying towards.
Amy was frustrated early when she wasn't getting enough talk time. Sanders and Warren were hogging things. Then the Mexico question was proper. That had been Amy's weakest moment of the campaign, as I emphasized in the related thread once it happened. It was difficult to believe Amy wasn't better prepared this time. Rattle off some names and recent policy decisions regarding Mexico. That's what Bush 43 used to do including the famous second debate with Gore in 2000 that Saturday Night Live properly mocked.
Then the Dreamers answer was even worse. Mind boggling. I had to pause the tape and watch something else for a while, before returning.
Amy let Pete get under her skin. Some of her responses indicate she wasn't ready to be challenged like that. But you can't weaken to comments like, "Are you saying I'm dumb?" Trump would feast on something like that. His supporters would be in a feeding frenzy.
Very disappointing overall. Bloomberg technically may have been worse in the first hour but he didn't show a weak side like Amy did, nor a testy side.
I don't mind wagering against my favorite teams and I don't mind defining my preferred candidates properly when they fail.
