Michael Bloomberg was mercilessly attacked in his first debate - and he flopped

Before Wednesday night’s debate, Michael Bloomberg’s critics had been furious with the Democratic National Committee for changing its rules to allow Bloomberg on the debate stage. But it turned out the critics should have been thanking the DNC. Bloomberg was absolutely terrible. His campaign may not literally have ended on the debate stage, but it’s hard to see how any viewer could come away believing his pitch that he is “the best candidate to take on Trump.”
Bloomberg roundly attacked by rivals in fiercest Democratic debate so far

Bloomberg was ill-prepared, uncharismatic, and unlikable. The other candidates ran rings around him. Elizabeth Warren sank her teeth in early, interrupting Bloomberg’s opening statement to point out how his long history of sexist comments about women made him a lot like Donald Trump. Warren landed even more brutal blows later in the debate, when she challenged Bloomberg to release women from the non-disclosure agreements his company had forced them to sign in sexual harassment lawsuits. Bloomberg mumbled some lame excuse about how the agreements were consensual, but was clearly caught off-guard, and Warren wouldn’t let the issue go.

Bloomberg looked feeble, and after the debate some Democratic bigwigs were already reportedly concluding that “Bloomberg isn’t the answer.”

Our two most electorally successful presidents in the past 50 years weren't socialists, they met America where it is, at the junction of center and left. That she bought for cash in 1972 is worth 187,000 now. So that $35000 was pretty much the equivalent of $187,000 cash.

So Bernie wrote a book and made a lot of money. His wife had some money too. He hasn't been rich all his life and he stands up for poor people. I'm okay with that. I think the fact that he's somewhat well off is really irrelevant. It isn't like he didn't pay contractors for work they did or was a slumlord. He made his money in a fair way without cheating anyone.

For cash after selling a house his wife inherited. Lots of people sell houses and turn around and buy another house with the proceeds.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.snopes.com/news/2016/08/10/bernie-sanders-buys-summer-home/amp/

However, the original Seven Days report included information on how the Sanders’ afforded the summer home. O’Meara Sanders said that she had inherited a vacation home in Maine, but the family was unable to make use of it due to its distance from their primary residence in Vermont, so she sold it and used the proceeds to finance the purchase of a more suitable vacation home in North Hero:

“My family had a lake home in Maine since 1900, but we hadn’t had the time to go there in recent years — especially since my parents passed away,” she said. “We finally let go of it and that enabled us to buy a place in the islands — something I’ve always hoped for.”

I'm a capitalist, like Elizabeth Warren. But with the corruption that our system now embraces, you cannot have true capitalism. Real capitalism requires accountability and a level playing field. We have none of that in our government or powerful corporations--or not in the right measure anyway. (Bernie was right when he told Bloomberg that he (and his ilk) wrote the tax code) And that's going to get worse. I hate the way that word Socialism is thrown around and I wish Bernie hadn't saddled himself with it. The truth is, Socialism works very well for some issues, but there are too many people who like to bludgeon the Left with that word. If we rid our system of all the "Socialist" programs, Medicare, Social Security, public parks, transportation, military, law enforcement, etc., no one would be happy. But folks sure like to make socialism a big scary booger bear. Few seem to be alarmed or make use of the word that describes the true and greatest threat to our democracy: CORRUPTION!

post debate analysis, Andrew Yang was on the panel and he mentioned what it's like to prep for these debates and suggested that Bloomberg hadn't had much time for that. He was quickly corrected by most of the panel claiming he had hired quite a crack team and spent plenty of time and cash into his prep including a full mock debate set up. The conversation didn't take long to get around to the concept that Mike may not take to his preparations and may just walk away from it when the heat is on attended by the rationale that all those prep folks do work for Bloomberg and he makes the call as to whether he "accepts" preparation or not.

They concluded that he probably didn't accept the preparation team's advice.

Pete and Amy were out in the weeds clawing one another, Bernie waxed theoretical without substance (reminds me at times of John Andersen, 1980), Joe showed there's still spark but not brilliance, and Liz was earnest yet bludgeoning. Bloomberg was not welcomed to the club. He is an elite civic-minded businessman turned politician, aloof but highly intelligent. I hope they didn't turn him off. I, like others, thought Bloomberg was the answer. I was wrong. He can't debate and has too much baggage. He looked like a monopoly character. You almost expected him to pull out a cigar and light it with a 100 dollar bill. I hope he exits the race and puts his money on a Bernie / Warren ticket or something similar. Bernie did well, so did Warren. Biden is fading. Hold on, it is going to be a rough ride to November.

Bloomberg sucked. I'm a Warren supporter and she did great. I'll support our nominee, but dear God I hope it's not Bloomberg.

Seeing Bloomberg taken down several notches and publicly exposed as a flawed candidate by Sen. Warren had me shouting at the TV like an excited sports fan. Thank you Sen. Warren!!

Bloomberg IS NOT the answer.

Will we all accept it if the party essentially says....Sorry, were going to give it to someone else?

Does anyone here think thats a winning recipe?

38. Can't be the nominee with 35% of the delegates.

It's his job to sew up the nomination on the second ballot if he can't win it outright. And all this hand- wringing over "stealing it from him" at the convention. Please. It's a fkn joke. Clinton supporters got to listen to him BEG the party to steal it from her and christen him 4 years ago. If his supporters want to take their free toys and go home there's not much reasonable people could do at that point.

Bernie agreed to accept it. If he goes into the convention with substantially less than a majority of delegates then, yes, that would mean most Dems would prefer a different candidate and would accept the second round results.

37. One bad night at the hands of ambitious, seasoned, aggressive contenders
Thu Feb 20, 2020, 09:52 AM
Feb 2020

And the Democratic Party continues it’s lurching back and forth back and forth back and forth. Despite Warrens highly entertaining performance recreating the role of Martha in Who’s afraid of Virginia Wolfe - to the extreme delight and profit of the media- she will most likely be punished by everyone else that wasn’t into the catharsis at any cost crowd. Why did some Democrats get off on her assaulting her contenders? Frustration and anger and fear of Trump. Last night she let the GOP define her. She’s made herself as polarizing as some people believe Sanders is. I hope peoplereally got to vent and get their toxicity out. Because we lost the election to Trump last night. So what if she or anyone else stomped on Bloomberg. What does that actually get us?

I know Bloomberg has alot issues but to relentlessly attack him was not the right or smart thing to do. He has decided to be on our side and is willing to spends his billions to help us win. With what happened last night, few will take him or his ads seriously. Trump just jumped up several notches.

Thu Feb 20, 2020, 10:47 AM
Feb 2020

Because he wouldn’t put in the work. He doesn’t take town hall questions. He didn’t do debate prep. He apparently thought he could just coast in, or ignored the advice he was given.

His campaign SHOULD have ended last night. If everyone else had simply kept all the fire on him for the two hours, I think he would have been done.

But he managed to give media talking heads some small crumbs to work with, and so. Ow he goes back to spending millions on ads.

He can also spend every day prepping for the South Carolina debate.
