(12,712 posts)Perhaps just doing a thought experiment of some Randian, libertarian nightmare where everything is owned by big corporations and the wealthy would help.
They demand a return on their investment, no matter how much they have accrued and that's endless. Profit is job one. Neo-liberalism is actually based on the idea of the more transactions the better and that allows for fees, returns on investment, etc.
Try some hyperbolic extrapolation: You drive somewhere and your mileage is transmitted to a corporation that now does the paving and you pay by the mile. You take a walk and are required to have pedometer app that reports that to pay for the sidewalks. Libraries now charge for checking out books. You could go on and on and it is not really hard to imagine.
There are some estimates that, at the current rate of wealth transfer to the upper-percentile, there will be an overall ownership of the planet by a small number of people, relatively speaking. Less common people will own anything of real value and the future will be about renting your existence. That's called a rentier culture. What they will do with people who can no longer rent it will be a matter of pure economics. A myopic view that is based only on return on investment will determine that.

(12,712 posts)That's one efficient use of leftovers.
You can easily render the protein in huge vats like they do with pet foods, (using animals now, of course). No sense in wasting a useless eater.
Hey, it's improved!

(32,017 posts)Most of the people that you would be trying to reach would be utterly immune to your argument and would assume that nothing of the kind could ever happen in America. Naturally, that's because they are often ignorant and almost always take liberal government for granted. Then they vote for Republicans--against the very liberals who fight to ensure liberal government and who have long fought to insure that the dystopia you describe does not come to fruition. Being a sane liberal is a thankless task.
