Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumKevin Sheekey just admitted there is a real possibility Sanders basically wraps up a win on ST
(Bloomberg campaign manager)
Just laid it out on live on MSNBC. He said CA alone could grow Sanders's lead to such an extent it makes it almost impossible to catch him based off other ST results and the remaining states after ST.
I am not liking this at all.
We are headed down a path toward possibly losing the House if this continues. Forget the Senate.
Assuming Bloomberg drops back just a wee a bit, and if the falloffs are split amongst all the other candidates and not clustered to just one, that could put Bernie as the only candidate to hit 15%, and thus, if that happened, he would get all 415 delegates. Just my state of birth alone could give Bernie 21% of the 1990 he needs to wrap up the nomination on the first ballot.
primary today, I would vote for: Joe Biden

(115,836 posts)We are so fucked if it's Sanders.
Although I guess if millions of people were willing to buy Trump's snake oil, even more millions might be persuaded to buy Bernie's.

(3,176 posts)...we'll be 'fucked' if we play it 'safe' again...
...we need the strongest most credible anti-trump we can find to beat el-trumpo in the Fall...
...and that's Bernie...
...Bernie can and will crush trump...guaranteed
...I can feel it...

(43,499 posts)polls for candidates in last night's debate) enough of her support will go to Bernie to further boost him closer. Even 5% (if she is at 10%, I am saying he could get half of that from her) pushes him closer and closer.
Also, the bandwagon effect will start to kick in, and an air of inevitability will drive voters to Sanders as well.
There is almost no way that the 4 moderates to centre left (Biden, Pete, Bloomberg (who may now fall back after hsi bloodbath) and Klobuchar) candidates will have one emerge from the pack in time unless most or all of the following happened:
1 Klobuchar immediately drops out before NV but especially SC. Will never happen. She won't before SC I fear and possibly will not until after ST. She has no path to win, and can only help to add to Bernies chances as she takes from all the other moderates.
2 Pete immediately drops out or drops before ST. See Klobuchar and also factor in he is leading in delegates and has a shit tonne of money atm. He will not do it. He has a far better case to make than Amy.
3 Either (cannot be both) Biden or Bloomberg (who will need a massive rebound debate to do so) explodes into being the clear front runner moderate.
4 Warren hangs in there are keeps Bernie tamped down, even if it only marginally.
Assuming Number 3 above is Biden, he SO SO has to have a monster debate and come in a solid 2nd (first would be better yet) in NV and serious THUMP all and especially Bernie, in SC by a big, big margin.
Then you are back to a (hopefully) 2 person race, as either Biden or Bloomberg (if Bloomberg is that Number 3) would drop out post ST (we can hope). Pete and Amy exit after ST unless somehow Pete pulls a miracle and bcome the number 3.

(115,836 posts)And I really don't get why people who want a so-called progressive candidate would pick a shouty old grouch with a heart condition who hasn't had a new idea on 40 years over a brilliant woman like Warren. Maybe it's really true, sadly, that - as someone here said - XY marks the spot.

And the Democratic Party gets tarred as socialist for a few elections to come, with every old video clip of Sanders saying foolish things run in ads against Democrats.
While Sanders will likely blame Democrats for his loss and do his best to convince his supporters to also blame Democrats.
